    DC Brau Brewing Co. of Washington, DC, is Looking for Two Qualified Shift Brewers.

    Since the launch of our brand in the spring of 2011, DC Brau Brewing Company has grown our production capacity each year. Our latest expansion has allowed us to ramp up our current production capacity to roughly 15,000 bbls a year. Because of our new additions and the demands of the market, our growing brewery is looking to bring on two qualified brewers to the team.

    The Shift Brewer at DC Brau Brewing shall be responsible for daily brewing and wort production activities on our 15 bbl brewhouse. T`his professional is expected to work closely with DC Brau’s Production and Management Teams and reports directly to the Head Brewer and Lead Brewer. This position will work in daily coordination with the other staff in the brewhouse, cellar, packaging, and administrative teams. We are looking for applicants with relevant experience as brewers in a craft brewery setting. These are NOT entry-level positions.

    Our ideal Shift Brewer has a passion for craft beer, has experience working in a production brewery, is mechanically inclined, and is a troubleshooting wiz. This professional must also possess a strong work ethic and enjoy working as part of a diverse and unified team. 


    Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Mill malted barley.
    • Implement mashing, vorlauf/recirculation, and lautering procedures.
    • Empty and clean mash tun following brewhouse standard procedure.
    • Overseeing and implementing boiling of wort and hop additions based on provided DC Brau recipes.
    • Follow instructions and implement recipes accurately
    • Send wort to fermenters.
    • Keep accurate brewhouse records to ensure consistency in recipe execution using standard logs.
    • Checking fermentations (i.e. specific gravity and pH) and recording them accurately.
    • Using proper Clean In Place (CIP) techniques and procedures when cleaning brewery tanks.
    • Troubleshooting problems in the brewhouse and beyond.
    • Work with and demonstrate safe handling techniques when using brewery chemicals.
    • Safely drive and operate forklift and scissor lift

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Minimum of 1-2 years of relevant brewing experience and/or technical training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience are required.
    • Technical knowledge in all applicable aspects of the brewing process
    - Brewhouse - Everything from raw material handling through fermentation and conditioning, including dry hopping, yeast handling and sanitation procedures
    - Cellar - filtration, tank cleaning, dry hopping, yeast handling, chemical handling, and cleaning.
    • Ability to work in a fast paced brewery environment and pay attention to detail.
    • Flexibility, results oriented mindset, and a good attitude are paramount.
    • Must be neat and understand that thorough cleanliness and cleaning are of the utmost importance.
    • Ability to work well independently and within a team.
    • Desire to learn and a willingness to be taught and instructed
    • Basic knowledge of proper chemical handling/safety and willingness and ability to work safely with chemicals.
    • Repeatedly required to lift 55 lbs, occasionally required to lift upward of 150 lbs
    • Ability to effectively communicate with team members throughout the brewery.
    • Mechanical background preferred
    • Knowledge and passion for craft beer
    • High School Diploma

    DC Brau is offering full-time (40+ hours/week) employment. After a 90 day probationary period full-time employees are offered benefits including health and dental insurance and paid time off. Total compensation depends on experience.
