Yeah, maybe I was a little off with the "just a drip" bit, and a drip/second sure ain't gonna do it. I guess I meant something more like a drizzle.
I'm afraid that you're going to have to figure out some way to catch the water running off the seal--you need enough flow to keep that wort from crystallizing in the seal, or it's doing no good. It's the crystals of wort that ruin the seal, after all.
Maybe something like an oil-drain pan under the pump, with a little fountain-type pump to circulate the water? You'll need as much water as you can fit, since the water is also a coolant.
