    Yeah, maybe I was a little off with the "just a drip" bit, and a drip/second sure ain't gonna do it. I guess I meant something more like a drizzle.

    I'm afraid that you're going to have to figure out some way to catch the water running off the seal--you need enough flow to keep that wort from crystallizing in the seal, or it's doing no good. It's the crystals of wort that ruin the seal, after all.

    Maybe something like an oil-drain pan under the pump, with a little fountain-type pump to circulate the water? You'll need as much water as you can fit, since the water is also a coolant.

      Pump Configuration

      While Timm's wet wash setup would be my preferred choice for stationary pumps, it should not be necessary for cart pumps of the duty we run in our operation. We are running Waukesha which uses almost exactly the same model numbers as the pumps you are speaking about.
      Just at a glance that 100 series is not a ruggedly built as the C-114 that has been mentioned. C-114 is the smallest we run and I have 3 identical cart pumps that perform well and get essentially run thru the mill often.
      One thing I found when I first tore one of the in house pumps down for repair when I had not worked with them much before was the drive collars were set tighter than what the book calls for. While I did not care for this fact, sometimes its down to " what works " and obviously persons that had gone before found this out. While the DOCs call for a setting of 5/8", the one I first pulled down was at 1/2" and the Vorlough was even tighter. The seal life is decent even without wet wash on the back.
      Intelligently run frequency drives can help, especially on something where the SOP is to throttle the pump discharge heavily.
      I feel like you might be wasting your time with that particular pump model and may possibly be better off stepping up to the 114, although a real pump wizard may be able to come around to your place and identify the weak points to suggest corrections by looking at the full duty they see. My cost to build out one of those 2 wheel carts with a C-114 without a drive is about $1500.00 with a 1HP Single phase motor.
      Building with a similar 3 phase motor and a VFD of my choice would add on about $ 450.00 roughly.
