  • Brewmaster opportunity for a startup cooperative brewery in Houston, TX

Startup brewery looking for a brewer who has experience using commercial-scale brewing equipment (15 bbl+), and possesses a creative brain and a positive attitude to become an important member of the growing craft beer movement in Texas.

Enthusiasm for craft beer is exploding in Texas right now, and Houston is no exception. We would like to help support this growing trend by building a startup cooperative brewery in the heart of downtown Houston. The brewery will have a selection of core and specialized beers for people to drink in our taproom, as well as at bars, brewpubs, and many other locations around Houston. Above all, we will emphasize a quality product with top-notch beer, and the business we build around it will serve to elevate and support that product.

The brewery will be located in East Downtown (“EaDo”), a rapidly developing neighborhood that is close to the soccer stadium, a baseball stadium, walking distance from several other downtown attractions, and well-served for multi-modal access (by car, walking, biking, public transport) and efficient distribution. We will have a vibrant urban taproom and production brewery in a unit that will facilitate and accommodate planned expansion. We are also a worker-owned cooperative brewery, which means that it is a business owned and managed by the people who work there (for more information on the cooperative business model, visit http://www.sba.gov/content/cooperative or http://www.usworker.coop/sites/defau...0is%20WC_1.pdf).

Timing for this position is approximately 9 mos – 1 year with brewing operations likely beginning in Q3 2015.

The person selected for this position will assist in designing and installing our 15 bbl brewing system and will have freedom in recipe creation and refinement. We offer a competitive salary and the opportunity to work for a collaborative, data-driven, and innovative brewery in a city with a lot of potential for growth in craft brewing. Good candidates will share our desire to create new craft beer enthusiasts and promote community stewardship by collaborating with area organizations, other breweries, and the neighborhood to strengthen our community.

    Minimum qualifications:
    • At least one year of commercial brewing experience w/ minimum of 600 bbl volume
    • Some experience can be substituted for educational credentials from an accredited brewing school.
