  • Stainless Steel Barrels for 3BBL Nano Questions.

Hi Folks. This will be my first post here on probrewer.com

I'm currently in the planning/pre-planning stages of a Nano Brewery here in Oregon. I've got some questions on hardware and materials.

I'm looking at using 130 gallon stainless steel barrels for my brew system. However a friend of mine brought up a potential problem with using them for a brewery. He said they may not be able to get NSF certified. So is this in fact true? Is it necessary to get NSF certified on HLT, BK and MLT? I could certainly see it being an issue in the case of FVs but I would think it would be a non issue so long as its all stainless construction. Would used or new condition make a difference in this case? Used as in non brewing applications, likely used from the food processing industry.

Has anyone here used stainless steel barrels in a production brewery or brew pub as a main system or even a pilot system? If so what might I be able to expect as far as life time or difficulties with set up with stainless barrels as a brew system.

I've got plenty more questions to come.

    Cheers
    Geoff
