  • Premier Keg Washer - Sanitation Cycle Issue

We use the PSS Keg Washer and we are having issues with the sanitation cycle. Has anyone had a similar issue where the sanitizer is not properly being incorporated with the rinse water to sanitize the kegs? The pump is working and it looks like it is pulling sanitizer from the resevoir, but it is not going anywhere. The volume of sanitizer is not decreasing over time. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

We have had similar problems with our PSS keg washer. We realised after many kegs that no sanitiser was used! We opened the dosing pump and took the black rubber hose out. The rubber hose was still flat where the pump was squeezing it and we had to squeeze the hose a few times for it to go back to it's original round shape, put it back in and it worked all good.

We now take the hose out after every keg washing day and leave it out until we need to use the keg washer again. Every now and then, it will not dose sanitiser on the first run, so we will just put those kegs through again. I would also suggest to fill your sanitiser into a reservoir with markings on it for easier monitoring of the sanitiser level.

We use 5% PAA as our sanitiser and it seems like this makes the rubber hose in the dosing pump a little sticky. Hope this work for you and let me know how you go.

      How Old?

How old is your machine and how many cycles per week do you run on it?

Over time, the special silicone/rubber piece in the peristaltic pump wears out. We had to replace ours about 3 months ago for the same reason.

We also had to replace the check valve on the dosing line because it was getting stuck in the open and closed position.

The unit is almost two years old. We had to replace the check valve on the dosing line as well as the silicone hose in the peristaltic pump. We still have to take the hose out and push it back into shape after each use.

Yeah, oxine and PAA will eat that hose over time. You might open the touch screen control box and check that there's a silicon gasket sandwiched around the pump shaft. We had the pump tubing spring a leak, slowly driping oxine into the box, which then offgassed chlorine and killed our touch screen. Ours is about 2.5 years old, but now they put that gasket in by default. Thanks Premier... But it's an easy retrofit. A 40 cent gasket or $500 screen.

Between the pump tubing decaying and the poor connection between it and the sani hose (which will just pop out randomly no matter how hard you otiker/zip tie it) that little peristaltic pump has become one of the biggest banes of my brewery existence.

Despite these problems, would you recommend this washer? I am planning to purchase this washer and so I am following this conversation.
