    Katabatic Brewing Company is a production brewery (opened Sept 2014) in Livingston, MT a world-renowned fly-fishing mountain town 1-hour from Yellowstone National Park, minutes from the Absorka Wilderness, and 30 mins from Bridger Bowl Ski Area. Montana is third in craft breweries per captita! Our brewery is located in a historic brick building downtown. We are a production style brewery with a retail sample room and a 7-barrel(bbl) Premier Stainless brewhouse, with four 7 bbl fermenters and four 7 bbl bright tanks. We will be getting one 20 barrel bright and one 20 barrel fermenter in May to increase production. We do not serve food. We focus our sales to area bars and restaurants as well as in our taproom offering 4-8 beers with a number of creative seasonals, a nitro tap and root beer.

    Scope and General Purpose of Job:
    Assist with brewery operations and cleaning to include all aspects of the brewing process, wholesale delivery, packaging and retail sales. The assistant brewer will be responsible for their own brew days as we move to double and triple batches. More extensive knowledge of the brewing process is required.

    Job Requirements:
    • 2-3 years experience as an assistant brewer, or formal brewing education, or current enrollment
    • Positive attitude along with an absolute passion for brewing and beer
    • Must be willing and able to work for extended periods of time in hot/wet environments and cold/wet environments.
    • Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
    • Ability to lift 55 pound sacks of grain
    • Ability to work overtime as needed

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Excellent experience and knowledge of the brewing process; problem solving and creativity
    • Assist in day-to-day brewery operations to include mash in, mash out, filtering, and transferring
    • Assist with inventory management
    • Assist in cellar person with cleaning kegs, kegging out, cleaning lines and faucets
    • Maintain current, detailed, and accurate brewlogs, inventories, and reports
    • Represent Katabatic Brewing Company at events, festivals, and promotions.
    • Deliver beer to wholesale accounts if needed.
    • Use proper clean-in-place (CIP) procedures to clean brew house, brite tanks, fermenters, kegs, beer lines and faucets
    • Coordinate with head brewer and taproom manager to maintain our infrastructure and level of consistency/quality
    • Test samples for CO2 levels
    • Monitoring yeast cell counts during fermentation and aging
    • Test samples in tanks for daily laboratory analysis
    • Maintain expertise and abilities to perform minor maintenance on the infrastructure and assist with major in-house repairs
    • Tracking all data points carefully during the batch.
    • Maintain a clean and safe working environment in the production area
    • Receiving, handling, storing, of raw materials
    • Preparing the finished product to be packaged
    • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
    • Be Professional, Punctual, Honest, Passionate, Reliable, Self-Motivated, and have Integrity
    • Ability to multitask and work quickly under pressure.
    • Maintain a clean and orderly workplace.
    • Strong beer knowledge and enthusiasm
    • Ability to quickly learn policies and procedures for the brewery
    • Follow policies and Standard Operation Procedures in the Cellar and Brewhouse
