  • Underbar Glass Washer

    I'm thinking about ditching our manual glass washer and getting an automatic washer.

    When it get's really busy, the bar gets buried in dirty glasses and it really grinds us down. Also, no matter how much training we give on how to properly wash glasses, glasses sometimes don't get washed and rinsed properly.

    Can anyone recommend a glass washer that works well and get glasses beer clean? I've looked at the high temp Perlick washer, but it's a little out of my price range at $5k+.

    American Dish Service

    We bought an undercounter unit by American Dish Service as sold through our local Supplies man.
    I did the install.
    Seems like a decent and fairly rugged unit and most likely better than the clunker that we had from EcoLab.
    Its a one rack type machine.
    You need to feed it with 130F water close coupled.

      Is it a heated model? How much did you spend? Would you buy that model again?

        We originally bough a Fagor glasswasher. Don't make that mistake. We're currently leasing an EcoLab. Not happy.

        I'll be watching this post to see what others recommend.

          About $3000.00
          It is heated but most of this type require hot water coming in to operate correctly. I have a 20 GALLON electric tank close in the hot water line as a booster arrangement.
          So far its a decent unit.
          The drain cycle is a pump out style.

            While your experience with those two models is unfortunate, I thank you very much for sharing. I was actually looking at both of those brands.

              We got a little Moyer-Diebel hot water dishwasher when the handwashing became ridiculous. Think it was about $4k, but we got like $500 or $750 back from our power company for it being Energy Efficient, so check that sort of thing. We tried to maintain it ourselves for a year... I don't recommend it. Now we have a service contract for it with Ecolab.

              And if you get a hot water unit, make sure you have a glass rinser or something in the bar because you'll find yourself swamped on some big party night and all your glassware will be clean, but piping hot for a good 20 minutes.

                  Now that I have some time and a beer in hand, I'll expand a bit:

                  The Fagor was just plain junk. The pick-up tube for the detergent (which is basically caustic lye) dissolved in less than a month. I replaced it with one that could handle the caustic, so that was easy, but stupid. The plastic bushing the spinning arms mount and rotate on also cannot handle the detergent, and had to be replaced more than once a year. After a few years, the thing developed so many leaks that I finally gave up on it.

                  EcoLab's machine seems to be better built--at least, it isn't dissolving in it's own liquids. The thermostat seems to last about one year, and getting it serviced seems to take about another year. Ours is currently out of commission and we're waiting for the tech to get out here after calling over a week ago. The same machine at another bar in the county is in the same condition, and has been for over a month.

                    Before selling brewing equipment I was in the bar and restaurant industry for 30 years. The best unit I used was a rotary glass washer with a cold water rinse. Here is a sample:

                      Just an update to this thread....I ended up leasing an American Dish Service washer. It's a low temp washer that is fed with 130F water.

                      Works great and roughly equates to the productivity of about 3/4 of a person constantly washing by hand. Glasses are consistently clean. Leaves some chemical residue but is easily washed away with the glass rinser.
