  • Limited addition Growlers

    Hey all,

Was wondering if there are any legal/labeling issues with limited runs of special addition growlers.

Does it require label approval if its for a specific beer?

    Anyone out there doing this?

    Thanks

If you fill upon request you can do what the ----------- you want. If you prefill jugs you need approval!

well....that's true, assuming you have a serving license. If you do not, and are just a micro, approval is required.

Edit: (Not worth posting to an old thread...) My post here is just flat wrong. Sorry if it caused any confusion. Growlers are the great label-approval wild card... once approved, ANY beer you put in it is fair game!

      Cheers,

The Federal TTB does not distinguish between a brewpub(serving beer) and a micro(not serving beer). Unless the state stipulates that a label approval is needed then the above is correct; prefilled need approval and filled on demand do NOT!

          sooooo........

the fact that the growler is for a specific beer only and has a "in-house" (taphandle logo) on the growler is ok?

My concern was that that the growler had to marked generically with just the brewery logo to qualify as a growler, and that once you entered the area of branding the container for a specific beer that it might then require label approval.

Maybe a call to the bureaucracy is needed..........

          Thanks for the replies
