    All employees of 12 Gates Brewing Co. LLC are on a singular mission:

    To make the best beer possible.
    We are looking for someone who is going to grow with 12 Gates, can put in the time that it takes to build an icon. We need a new team member who is passionate about brewing and beer and is excited to tell people about it. Brewing experience and formal education is preferred but only a great work ethic and attitude is required. Well also the ability to lift 55lb bags of malt and kegs and be legally allowed to work in the state. And you know, brew beer.

    This is a full time position starting in September 2015. Part-Time arrangement may be possible for the right person(s).

    We have a 30 barrel system, 3 vessel (lauter/mash, boil, whirlpool) plus a dedicated hop-back. We’re not talking bush league here.

    Below are listed examples of some of the job responsibilities of a Brewer at 12 Gates Brewing Co.

    Daily duties.
    • Brew beer
    • Monitor sugar decrease in fermenters.
    • Monitor pressure build up in fermenters.
    • Monitor quality and temperature of fermenting beers.
    • Monitor quality, flavor and carbonation of finishing beers.
    • Monitor usage of serving beers.
    • Filter finished beer when beer is aged enough in the fermenter.
    • Manage and monitor everything listed below.
    • Rearrange production schedule as necessary daily.
    • Reschedule time as necessary.
    Weekly duties
    • Labwork.
    • Verify beerlines were cleaned, or clean them.
    • Create brew/filter production schedule.
    • Fill out and fax Weekly Beer Management Report.
    Semi-monthly duties
    • Federal BATF excise taxes.
    • When keg dock sales begin, go through keg sheets, make calls and send notices.
    Monthly duties
    • Federal BATF excise taxes.
    • State excise taxes
    • Inventory at the brewery & at any (future) warehouse site.
    • Represent 12 Gates Brewing at special events
    Bi-monthly duties
    • Clean brewers bathroom
    • Take delivery of grain/malt in silo/grain room.
    Quarterly duties
    • See the Seasonal Maintenance and Cleaning Schedule for a more complete list.
    • Take delivery of specialty malt. Verify order and sort by type for future inventory taking.
    • Deep-clean outsides of tanks, floors, etc.
    Semi-annual duties
    • See the Seasonal Maintenance and Cleaning Schedule for a more complete list.
    • Preventative maintenance acid washing and re-passivation of all tanks. (Including mash screens and DE Filter.)
    • Take butterfly valves apart for cleaning.
    Irregularly scheduled duties
    • Attend and work at beer festivals, promoting 12 Gates Brewing Co. (Get everything ready – beer, jockeybox, CO2, coasters, banner, displays & literature.)
    • Talk to the media.
    • Talk to the public (our customers or people passing through).
    • Personally answer inquiries from breweriana collectors. (Eastern Europe loves beer labels)
    • Personally answer inquiries from microbrew enthusiasts.
    • Give tours.
    • Teach managers & bartenders to give tours if possible.
    • Give speeches to local service clubs, conferences, etc.
    • Read brewing periodicals to keep up with technology and super sweet ideas.
    • Keep ears open for possible future collaboration opportunities.
    • Schedule new managers and bartenders to brew one day in the brewhouse with you.
    • Keep copies of customer information sheets stocked for the customers.
    OTHER DUTIES

    Manage the Brewery.
    • Design new beer recipes.
    • Monitor customer’s comments and raw materials in order to modify current regular beer recipes when necessary, and permission has been granted to do so.
    • Hire, train, and if necessary, fire Assistant Brewers.
    • Have knowledge of total operations on all equipment.
    • Design new procedures when necessary
    • Inform owners of any new procedures.
    • Inform owners of any quality control problems.
    • Inform owners of beer scheduling problems. (ie: running out of beer.)
    • Do whatever the owners or owners ask you to do, unless it is illegal, immoral or stupid.
    Manage Supplies.
    • Keep track of beer raw materials. (malt, hops, yeast, fruit, etc.)
    • Keep track of brewing supplies. (bungs, D.E., filter cartridges, chemicals, etc.)
    • Keep track of lab supplies. (alcohol burner fluid, agar media, test tubes, etc.)
    • Keep track of safety supplies. (rubber boots & gloves, band aids, goggles, etc.)
    Manage Beer Production
    • Keep all beers on tap at all times.
    • Produce finished beer for the brewery bar(s).
    • Produce kegged beer for accounts and dock sales.
    • Monitor volume beer sales.
    • Predict volume beer sales (and dock sales)..
    • Produced ‘special’ beers.
    • Schedule production according to monitored and predicted beer levels.
    • Brew, filter, keg, and cask beer according to the above schedule.
    Manage Cooperage. (For cask, in-house, & future sales kegs.)
    • Tracking missing kegs and order additional as needed
    Ordering.
    • Work with Rob so he can order the right stuff.
    Cleaning Schedules
    • Create the Seasonal Maintenance and Cleaning Schedule for a more complete list.
    • General cleaning of fermenters and servers.
    • Preventative maintenance cleaning of fermenters, servers, kettle, liquor back, mash tun, filter, keg washer, etc.
    • Kegs.
    • Party taps.
    • Exterior of tanks and brewery walls.
    • Floors and drains.
    • Mill room.
    • Any off-site warehouse.
    Trouble Shooting.
    • Preventative maintenance.
    • Invent gadgets and apparatus to get the job done.
    • Fix anything that breaks, if you can.
    • If you can’t fix it, hire someone who can fix it.
    Represent 12 Gates Brewing Co:
    • Anytime you are in public and someone asks what you do.
    • At local small brewer’s association meetings. (Most other attendees are owners.)
    • At local beer tastings and regional/national festivals.
    • When writing articles for national magazines.
    • As speaker for local clubs and national conferences.
    • To the local and national media.
