About Us
Yee-Haw Brewing Company is a 25,000 Barrel capacity craft brewery located about 50 miles from Asheville, NC in Johnson City, Tennessee. Yee-Haw is focused on creating a quality mix of the finest ales and lagers that celebrate good times and good company. Not lacking in character, the brewery itself is located in the 130+ year old ET&WNC train depot in the heart of downtown Johnson City, a lively, welcoming community complete with the Appalachian Mountains as its backdrop. Equipped with a strong leadership team, years of experience in the beer, wine and spirits industries and a robust brewing system, Yee-Haw is quickly expanding throughout East Tennessee and surrounding markets.
About This Role:
The Head Brewer will report directly to the Brewmaster and be responsible for the planning and execution of the day-to-day brewing operations to safely achieve the timely delivery of the highest quality beer to our customers. In addition, he or she will represent the brewery, in a manner consistent with our core values, at promotional and industry events as required.
Primary Duties
- Brew world class beer
- Effectively manage brewing operations; principally, material management and inventory control, setting and executing the brewing schedule and managing labor resources
- In conjunction with other department heads, ensure a safe work environment for all Yee-Haw employees; this includes OSHA compliance, conducting safety audits, maintaining up-to-date MSDS sheets, etc.
- Rigorously ensure adherence to all ingredient, in-process and finished beer quality specifications
- Perform Root Cause Analysis on quality deviations and recommend corrective actions
- Review brewing records for conformance to recipe
- Participate in daily sensory evaluations and ensure constant open dialogue with the Brewmaster and QA Lab Supervisor.
- Develop and lead an empowered, high functioning team of brewers that strive for Continuous Improvement.
- Help develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and ensure that they are understood and followed by all pertinent brewing and packaging personnel.
- Assist the Brewmaster in recipe development, trial brews, ingredient selection, etc.
- Track and report performance against brewing Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
- Other duties may be required from time-to-time as deemed necessary by the Company to support business objectives.
Our Ideal Candidate
- Passionate about craft beer
- Minimum of three years in a brewing leadership role (lead brewer or above) in a 10,000+ Bbl/year production facility
- B.Sc. in a biology, chemistry, or chemical engineering (formal brewing education a plus)
- Strong technical understanding of the brewing process and able to troubleshoot process issues
- Takes pride in their job and exudes a positive “can do” attitude
- Goal oriented and able to enroll others in attaining those goals
- Very organized with great attention to detail
- Level-headed, even-tempered, team player who is comfortable with controlled chaos
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (experience with MRP software a plus)
