  • Head Brewer Needed - Dry Ground Brewing Co (Paducah, Ky)

Dry Ground Brewing Company, located in historic Paducah, KY, is seeking a head brewer.

Having opened in February of 2015, we are Paducah’s first craft brewery. In just 8 months, we have been able to exceed our wildest expectations for our first year. We are debuting a collaboratively brewed beer with Schlafly this month. We are the cover story for Beer Advocate Magazine in October. The buzz is palpable around our beer and our beautiful tap room.

First and foremost we are a production brewery, with a 10 bbl Premier system, 20 bbl and 10 bbl fermentation vessels, and 20 bbl brite tanks. Our plan is to distribute draft and package in the future.

Paducah (pah-doo-kuh). Funny name isn’t it? But it’s a cool place. It has a thriving art community, two craft breweries, a low cost of living, an amazing local music scene, lakes, trails, rivers, great restaurants, a bevy of fascinating young professionals, and the people here are embracing craft beer in a way we never thought possible (you have to meet our regulars…especially Jeffro). Seriously, it’s cool.

Our brewery and taproom are located in the historic Coke Plant, a building on the National Register of Historic Places. The aforementioned taproom has 28 taps including a nitro handle and a cask handle…which looks really cool.

We are offering a competitive salary based on experience, with ample vacation. As a head brewer, your responsibilities will be commensurate with the position. Individuals with head or assistant/shift brewer experience is required. Please have references to correlate to industry work experience when submitting a resume. Relocation will be offered depending on distance and difficulty of move.

We have a catalog of flagship beers that have been very well received, and we are looking to continue the production of most of those beers. But as a business, we would never want to limit the creativity of our head brewer. You will have the opportunity to create your own beers, drive the barrel program, have fun, take risks, and generally be left to be a professional. We are not micro-managers in the least. We certainly want an individual capable of leading our brew program into the next phase of our business. You will be producing immediately for draft distribution and consumption in the taproom. However, we want to install a canning line in the next year. There is ample room to expand in our current facility and eventually we hope to upgrade from our 10bbl system and move further and further into being primarily a production brewery. Our ownership is very supportive of the business plan and fairly hands off. "If you can dream it, then you can do it" (yeah, that's an R. Kelly quote). But seriously, you'd be coming into an under-serviced market with tons of room to grow. The support is in place for that to happen. It's an established business with a great staff at your disposal. You would have freedom to guide the production side of the business in a way that pleases you. This is a great opportunity for someone wanting to make a name in the industry without having to start at ground zero.
