  • Universal Chilling Systems

We are thinking about pulling the trigger on a 20 ton unit from Universal Chilling Systems. This system is built to run in manufacturing facilities but it is not specifically built for brewery use. I am curious to get the forum's thought on such a unit. The link to the equipment is http://www.universalchillers.com/chillers_20ton.php.
We will be using it for our current 8 bbl BH and out future 30 bbl BH. We will have 2 30bbl FV, 1 10bbl FV, 2 6bbl FV and 1 30bbl brite. It will not be connected to out cold room.

    Just being real.
Ratings are not in American units and are obscure. Nominal TONS 17.06
Refrigerant 407C, not a good choice. I would ask the MFG if they are ok with R434A since its an R-22 clone machine.
R-404A is a better choice for glycol service.
I don't see that the machine is rated for glycol service.
Unit appears to be a single compressor machine. For that capacity you would be better of with a machine having at least 2 compressors as you would have some redundancy.
The unit appears to have one pump, and its not clear how many gallons the well holds.
You are really better off with a system that is set up for a chiller HX pump and a separate loop pump. This is a better way to do a Brewery system. You could most likely do better with a smaller capacity 2 compressor machine set up for brewery duty. We run over 500 bbl of Fermentation on 10 HP.
