POSITION: Head Brewer
LOCATION: Elmhurst, IL (17 miles west of Chicago)
OPPORTUNITY: Are you a Head Brewer or an Assistant Brewer and want to run your own brewhouse?? Do you have your own proven recipes and are eager to put them in front of a large customer base??
We have the downtown location, the funding, local government approval, and the marketing and operations experience, we just need you to help us reach our late-2016 goal of opening our brewery!
OVERVIEW: Our town of 45,000 friendly (and thirsty) people recently learned that our city government repealed an ancient, silly law forbidding breweries/brewpubs of any sort in our city limits. Since then we have put together a team focused on bringing Elmhurst its first modern brewery - a creative, beer-centric destination that’s also family-friendly, right in the heart of our downtown.
Elmhurst is home to a mid-size prestigious liberal arts college, many mid-size and large corporations, multiple private and public schools, and is undergoing a boom in new construction, both residential and commercial. Within a stone’s throw of our new brewery are 2 new 190+ luxury apartment building construction projects, a new 90+ single-family luxury home development, and a handful of new restaurants.
Our Head Brewer will develop new beer styles (staples & seasonals), ensure the beer’s appeal and quality, and eventually build his/her team. A passion and commitment to beer quality is a must, as is a team-focused and positive attitude!
DO YOU HAVE:
2+ years experience in a small to mid-sized production brewing facility?
Experience managing others in that facility?
Professional training from Siebel or similar organization?
Your own proven recipes for a variety of styles and seasonals?
A collaborative, creative personality?
A strong work ethic, maturity, and a positive attitude?
A willingness to either live near or commute to our Elmhurst location?
A desire to run your own brewhouse?
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• MUST be able to run a brewery by yourself – from ordering to producing wort to cleaning
• 2+ years’ experience brewing in a packaging brewery
• Proven management experience in a production brewery or large brewpub
• A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related discipline and/or certification from an accredited Brewing Training Institution
• Proven mechanical/electronics experience with beer production machinery
• Depth of knowledge of beer production, storage and packaging
• Excellent record keeping, attention to detail and communication skills
• Enthusiasm and strong personal knowledge of the microbrewery industry and market
• Ability to multi-task and be flexible
• Ordering and maintaining hops, grains, chemicals and supplies
• Operate bottling line including labeler, rinser, filler, crowner & corker
• Willingness to work events and festivals as needed
• Ability to regularly lift, push, or pull up to 65 pounds
COMPENSATION:
