    Title: Cellar Person
    Hours: 5 days per week (7-9+ hours per day), Monday - Friday
    Pay: DOE

    The Rare Barrel, an all-sour beer company based in Berkeley, CA, has an immediate opening for a full-time position as a Cellar Person. We are searching for someone responsible and trustworthy who can match our passion for sour beer and commitment to quality. We work as a team and share in both the difficulties and the fun aspects of working at a brewery. Prior experience working in a brewery, winery or distillery is required. This position will report directly to the Cellar Manager and indirectly to the Director of Blending and Brewing.

    Requirements


    This is a physical position. The Cellar Person must be able to lift 120 lbs. (this is a bona fide occupational qualification) be able to stand for long periods of time, and be comfortable working on their feet.

    Safety must always be a priority. Due to the physical nature of the job and the inherent risks of working in a production facility doing this job safely must be your first priority.

    Must be honest, trustworthy, dedicated, hard-working, self-motivated as well as possess a great attitude and attention to detail. A personal commitment to cleanliness and organization is required.

    Must love sours.

    Duties

    Moving beer from place to place, along with cleaning tanks, hoses, parts, etc., are the main responsibilities of the Cellar Person.
    More details:

    Cleaning: Lots of Cleaning. Sweeping, mopping, and organizing are a big part of this job (and any job in the brewing industry). This includes keeping the barrel cellar clean, organized and orderly.

    Paperwork: Attention to detail and keeping track of what you are doing at all times is of critical importance. This includes managing inventory, taking gravity, pH and temperature readings on tanks and barrels.

    Maintenance: Keeping our equipment operating properly ensures our beers are of top quality. This includes proper maintenance of forklifts, pallet jacks, barrels and lab equipment, as well as proper storage of raw materials, brewing equipment and finished product.

    Areas this position is responsible for include, but are not exclusive to;
    • Barrels: preparation, maintenance, monitoring, filling, emptying, rinsing, transferring and proper storage.
    • Tanks: clean-in-place, sanitizing, purging, monitoring, filling, exterior cleaning.
    • Warehouse Organization: Everything in its place and labeled correctly.
    • Brewing Preparation: Emptying beer into barrels and cleaning tanks, sanitizing and purging transfer tanks, collecting malts for recipes, collecting necessary parts and tools for brew day, cleaning tanks after brew day.
    • Packaging: Transfer, carbonate and keg beer, transfer, add sugar and yeast to and bottle beer, cleaning kegging lines, clean bottling lines.
    • Inventory: Assist in the managing of inventory any item in the cellar (barrels, kegs, racks, bottles, etc.)
