  • Pulling yeast samples during fermentation

    Greetings all,

curious if anyone has a process for pulling yeast samples during fermentation.

We would like to analyze yeast health during fermentation, prior to harvesting. We take gravity samples daily, and are wondering if there is some way to extract yeast and look at it?

We're thinking of just filling a flask off a sample port, and then throwing it in the fridge to crash it and try to drop yeast out. Curious if anyone has a better way to do this, or what your ideas would be. Thanks in advance!

    Fermentors are 7-30BBL.

    Cheers,

    Jerod

i like your angle here but. you would have to pul yeast from the bottom of the tank, from the sample valve and possibly a risky pull from the top to get a good idea of where the yeast is at, as the yeastie boys in there will be flocculating at different rates.
