QA/QC Technician - Green Flash Brewing Co. - Virginia Beach
JOB TITLE: QA/QC
REPORTS TO: Packaging Supervisor
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
JOB SUMMARY:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Daily sterile sampling and microbiological analysis of beers in process
• Use of UV/visible spectrophotometer for VDK, IBU, color and other testing
• Help with daily panel tastings of beers in process and sensory training of brewery staff
• Maintenance of packaged beer archive
• Daily reporting of lab results
• Maintaining logs (digital and otherwise) for all lab data and generation of a monthly report
• Work in conjunction with brewing, cellar and packaging teams to ensure consistent, high-quality product and timely release of finished beer
• Conduct research projects as needed
• Maintain healthy yeast population and determine best pitching yeast and yeast pitch amounts for all brews
• Superlative communication skills
• Meticulousness in all work to ensure the best results and highest quality beers
• Hop analysis (as needed)
• Weekly calibration checks (and maintenance) of DO/Carb instruments for the cellar and packaging teams
• Daily can fill volume checks and subsequent reporting
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry or biochemistry preferred
• Must have a valid California drivers license and a good driving record
• Must be able to read/comprehend written and oral instructions in English; read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and product recipes/material identifications
• Must be able to effectively communicate in English
• Brewing experience and ASBC membership a plus
• Experience with advanced lab equipment such as an Anton-Paar aclolyzer and GC helpful
• Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate a wide variety of small hand tools, and computer equipment
• Attention to details
• Enthusiasm and strong personal knowledge of the microbrewery industry and market is preferred
• Ability to work well with superiors and co-workers in a production and office/warehouse environment
• Ability to change tasks quickly and still maintain attention
• Ability to regularly lift, push, or pull up to 170 pounds
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• While performing the duties the employee is:
o constantly required to stand
o constantly required to use fine manipulation and simple grasping in order to handle production equipment and to utilize the computer and other standard office equipment such as telephone, fax machines, copiers, etc.
o constantly required to view objects at close and distant ranges
o constantly required to reach computers and other office and machinery
o frequently required to communicate with others
o frequently required to sit
o frequently required to lift and transport items weighing up to 50 lbs
o frequently required to lift and transport items weighing up to 170 lbs

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
