    THE BIG PICTURE
    The Door Person is responsible for maintaining a fun but safe environment in the Modern Times Tasting Rooms. S/He should be friendly but observant of those both coming into the space and those already within. S/He is also our first line of defense in keeping any minors or anyone else without a valid ID out of the tasting rooms. If/When the situation calls for it, they are able to deal with customers who need to be asked to leave in a patient but persuasive manner. Candidates must share Modern Times’ commitments to quality, safety, business ethics, and continuous innovation.

    THE EVERYDAY VIEW
    - Work regular shifts in the tasting room (manning the door, managing capacity, bussing as needed and able, trash)
    - Verify age as minimum of 21 years with valid I.D. (children under 13 with legal guardian permitted)
    - Prevent already intoxicated persons or groups from entering the premises
    - Monitor general rowdiness and intoxication level of guests and communicate as necessary with bar staff
    - Work with bar staff and the police to deal with non-compliant or aggressive individuals
    - Remove guests from the premises who have been asked to leave
    - Greet guests with reservations, special events tickets, or picking up purchased items, and notify the appropriate staff of their arrival
    - Assist in closing clean-up (final bussing and trash)
    - Adhere to and enforce all applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations
    - During serious emergencies, may be assigned to assist in the evacuation of the tasting room
    - Other tasks as needed

    DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
    - Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application
    - Able to pass a post-offer, pre-employment background check
    - Required California Guard Card
    - Ideal candidates will be able to work in both the North Park and Pt Loma locations as needed
    - Open availability is required; must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays, as needed
    - Able to do basic arithmetic in order to determine valid age of patrons
    - Able to work well with staff and public
    - Able to interact with a diverse population
    - Able to work with minimum supervision and react quickly
    - Able to communicate effectively and calmly in a variety of situations
    - Preferred previous Bar/service industry experience
    - Preferred previous security or door staff experience
    - Strong interpersonal skills, and a love for meeting and interacting with people
    - Must adhere to company’s policies and procedures
    - The desire to work in a fast-paced, growing company

    PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
    - Able to stand, walk, and be on your feet for prolonged periods
    - Able to read and follow written English instructions
    - Able to regularly twist, turn, kneel, climb, stoop, bend, crawl, lift and carrying supplies and equipment weighing up to 55 pounds using appropriate techniques and tools
    - Able to safely navigate the Tasting Room and snack bar areas including crowded spaces
    - Able to maneuver packages of any weight above 75 pounds with appropriate equipment and/or assistance
    - Abe to move 165 pounds, using appropriate techniques and tools
    - Able to work in a factory/production environment which may be loud, slick, humid, cold, and hot
    - Able to work in indoor and outdoor environment with moderate noise, sometimes slippery floors
    - Able to comply with and enforce all health, safety, and personal hygiene policies and standards

    ABOUT MODERN TIMES
    Modern Times is a 30bbl production brewery in the Point Loma neighborhood of San Diego. Modern Times is named after a beautifully crazy utopian community founded in 1850, and (almost) all of our beers are named after real utopian experiments or mythological utopias. Today, we're distributed throughout Southern California, San Francisco, the Central Coast, Maui, and select international markets. We operate a tasting room at the brewery, as well as in San Diego’s North Park community. We plan to open a pilot brewery, restaurant, and specialty coffee shop in Los Angeles in 2016. We brewed our first batch on May 18th, 2013; our beer went on tap for the first time on June 24th 2013; we held the soft opening for the Lomaland Fermentorium tasting room on August 9th, 2013; and our Grand Opening was September 7th, 2013.
