    THE BIG PICTURE
    Beer Servers are responsible for the day-to-day operation of our tasting rooms, including serving beer, selling merchandise, maintaining the physical space, and constructively interacting with customers. Beer servers are the face of the company for many of our fans, so it is their job to represent Modern Times and our beer in the best, most informative way possible while providing an outstanding service experience for every person who walks in our door. Beer Servers must be efficient, knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic, with the ability to answer a wide range of questions on brewing, our beer, and the company. Candidates must share Modern Times’ commitments to quality, safety, business ethics, and continuous innovation.

    THE EVERYDAY VIEW
    - Greet all guests entering the tasting room
    - Anticipate and respond to guest needs
    - Work regular shifts in the tasting room (serving beer, bussing, cleaning, etc)
    - Execute transactions through our POS system
    - Maintain responsibility for cash drawers, counting, and reporting while on shift
    - Help reinforce and provide accountability for all cash handling processes
    - Set up the bar on the first shift
    - Close down for the evening
    - Sell and stock merchandise
    - Move and re-stock kegs
    - Give tours
    - Perform opening/running/closing duties according to Modern Times policy and procedure
    - Maintain all Modern Times Safety and Sanitation Standard
    - Enforce all applicable alcohol laws and rules
    - Adhere to and enforce all applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations
    - Other tasks may be assigned as needed

    DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
    - Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application
    - Able to pass a post-offer, pre-employment background check
    - LEAD certification is required
    - San Diego County Food Handler Certification is required
    - Previous cash handling experience
    - Working knowledge of high volume operations and safe, responsible alcohol service
    - Preferred Cicerone certification
    - Preferred previous service industry and/or hospitality experience
    - Preferred knowledge of craft beer and the brewing process
    - Preferred comprehensive knowledge of Modern Times products, history, and heritage
    - Ideal candidates will be able to work in both the North Park and Point Loma locations as needed
    - Able to handle multiple tasks at one time efficiently and with an upbeat, friendly attitude
    - Able to deal with intoxicated guests in a positive and safety minded manner
    - Able and willing to work evenings, holidays, and weekends
    - Able to work independently and as a motivated team player
    - Able to read and follow written English instructions
    - Strong interpersonal skills, and a love for meeting and interacting with people
    - Desire to work in a fast-paced, growing company
    - Able to comply with and enforce all health, safety, and personal hygiene policies and standards

    PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
    - Able to stand, walk, and be on your feet for prolonged periods
    - Able to read and follow written English instructions
    - Able to regularly twist, turn, kneel, climb, stoop, bend, crawl, lift and carrying supplies and equipment weighing up to 55 pounds using appropriate techniques and tools
    - Able to maneuver packages of any weight above 75 pounds with appropriate equipment and/or assistance
    - Abe to move 165-pounds, using appropriate techniques and tools
    - Able to work in a factory/production environment which may be loud, slick, humid, cold, and hot
    - Able to work in indoor and outdoor environment with moderate noise, sometimes slippery floors
    - Able to comply with and enforce all health, safety, and personal hygiene policies and standards

    ABOUT MODERN TIMES
    Modern Times is a 30bbl production brewery in the Point Loma neighborhood of San Diego. Modern Times is named after a beautifully crazy utopian community founded in 1850, and (almost) all of our beers are named after real utopian experiments or mythological utopias. Today, we're distributed throughout Southern California, San Francisco, the Central Coast, Maui, and select international markets. We operate a tasting room at the brewery, as well as in San Diego’s North Park community. We plan to open a pilot brewery, restaurant, and specialty coffee shop in Los Angeles in 2016. We brewed our first batch on May 18th, 2013; our beer went on tap for the first time on June 24th 2013; we held the soft opening for the Lomaland Fermentorium tasting room on August 9th, 2013; and our Grand Opening was September 7th, 2013.
