  • Which Brand of Boiler is Better?

We are currently shopping around for a new 10 HP boiler. Wanted to get feedback from the community to see if there are any known issues with either brand.

    Burnham Series 5B model # 5006B,

    Crown Series 24 model #24-03

    Burnham Boilers

The 2 brand models in question are different types so the comparision is not apples to apples.
The Burnham being atmospheric and the Crown being forced draft. Its not clear if the Crown is modulating fire, which I consider an advantage in just about any situation.
The Burnham units are rugged and reliable for what they are.
A modulating fire boiler can often tune to the load and as thus prevent so many on-off cycles you will get with a non modulating style unit.
Columbia makes a very rugged modified Scotch design that I recommend looking at.
I avoid anything made by Cleaver Brookes haveing encountered too many problems with their boilers in field settings.
