  • Mash/Lauter Tun Design Question - False Bottom

    Hello all,
I'm in the process of custom building a small 450L electric brewery. I'm at the stage where I need to fabricate the mash/lauter tun but can't decide on the false bottom design. The vessel diameter will be 800mm and I plan to install a rectangular manway flush with the false bottom for grain removal. Question is how to mount the false bottom. Some mash tuns I have seen have a ring welded 50mm or so above the bottom cone to support the false bottom which seems like it would be difficult to clean. I'm after some ideas, drawings or photos of how other M/L tuns have been fabricated if possible.
At this stage I'm thinking of using a wedge wire false bottom however some I have seen recently have a laser cut bottom. Thoughts on this would be appreciated also.
    Cheers,
