Date coding practices

Does anyone out there have a good argument as to what the best practices are regarding date coding of packaged beer? Best by?, Born on?, coding that only the brewery can decipher? What have you found as the advantages of each? Also, any thoughts on having consistent information on keg and packaged product?

Date coding

Most places apply an expiration date and some apply an internal production or lot/batch number and these can be set up so only the brewer knows production date and/or lot/batch numbers. I can assist with this. Please contact me for details. Thanks KevinO'Connell
