  • Distillery Production Staff - Tuthilltown Spirits - Gardiner, New York

    Tuthilltown Spirits is looking to fill a full-time position in the distillery. The right individual will be motivated with a strong work ethic and have an interest in the fermentation of artisanal spirits. Candidates will be working in a fast-paced environment as part of a small cohesive unit, and must be willing and able to meticulously follow instruction and learn the established guidelines and techniques that allow us to produce award-winning spirits.*

    Qualifications/Experience:*
    High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and/or one year related experience mandatory. Candidates should have a strong mechanical background and a passion for brewing. Brewing experience is preferred. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty.     - Sets up production machines each day according to established procedures.
    - Gathers raw material, as needed, for the completion of each mashing and fermentation step, according to the schedule for that day.
    - Receives incoming raw materials and sees that they are delivered to their appropriate destination.
    - Operates production machines to produce mash and perform fermentation in accordance with established standards and guidelines.*
    - Maintains production of the required mash volume and monitors fermented mash, in order to facilitate the specified quantity of fermented materials for distillation.
    - Keeps track/record of material inventory and alerts procurement manager when volumes are low.
    - Company sanitation standards must be consistently met to ensure proper quality and expected yields for fermented mash.

    Language/Math/Reasoning Ability:*
    - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence of organization. Ability to communicate with team members effectively.
    - Ability to calculate figures and perform basic arithmetic. Calculating area/volume and ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry a plus.
    - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.*

    Equipment: Any previous experience with any of this equipment is a plus.

    Forklift, Bobcat skid steer, Pallet Jack, High GPM Flexible Impeller Pumps, Heavy 2" Brewers Hoses, 1000 Gallon Mash Tun, Mash Cooling Heat Exchanger, Chiller, 60 T Cooling Tower, Boilers, 1800 gal Hot Liquor Tank, Scales, Power Washer, CIP Skid, 3000 Gallon SS Fermentor

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work hazards near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and noise levels where hearing protection is mandatory. Eye protection is mandatory for anyone working on the plant production floor at all times. Other protective equipment such as gloves, apron, face shield are mandatory when measuring out chemicals, cleaners and other caustic materials. The employee must regularly move up to 100 pounds and/or up to 50 pounds frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; climb; twist/bend/stoop, reach above shoulder level with hands and arms.
