  • Brewers: Unique, supported opportunity to start your own brewery

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced brewer who is creative, collaborative, and dedicated to sustainability and the impact of a brewery on community development to start their own brewery as part of a revolutionary project.

A group of serial entrepreneurs, investors, educators, and community leaders has come together in New Haven, CT (home of Yale and a burgeoning entrepreneur network) to build a revolutionary “circular business ecosystem”. Our vision is to co-locate several, symbiotic businesses in a beautiful, historic 25,000 SF building just east of downtown in order to reduce waste and maximize cooperation between them.

The brewery will be located in about 6,000 SF -- the first business to launch in the space. The building requires minimal improvements, providing a turnkey opportunity for the right brewer. Our team will work with you from business plan to building plans & improvements, seeking investment (several have already shown an interest), equipment sourcing, permitting, branding, marketing, startup, and recruiting a team. We have built business plans for a 5bbl or 7bbl brewery in this location, but would be willing to work with the right candidate on a brewery of any size up to 15bbl.
The ideal candidate (we are also open to talking with existing breweries seeking a new location) will have the following:

    • Demonstrated commitment to successful and sustainable brewing tools and practices -- new processes, equipment, or operating methods that reduce waste and conserve natural resources
    • Designed and nurtured collaborations within neighborhoods and communities including job opportunities, community events, and demonstrated ability to create a community gathering place at a brewery
    • Devotion to learning more and expanding knowledge about the craft of brewing and desire to teach or apprentice others
    • High capacity for creativity and collaboration (you will have full creative control, and we want you to use it!)
    • Eagerness to experiment with new local ingredients
    • Experience. We are looking for an individual or organization with at least 2+ years, preferably 5+ years brewing on commercial systems, and who can perform all functions related to recipe development, brewing, barreling, fermenting, packaging, and cellaring beer.

If we've piqued your curiosity and this sounds like your dream come true, we want to talk with you. E-mail Anthony at anthony@formata.co and tell us:
    1. Are you an individual or representing an established brewery?
    2. What’s your brewing experience?
    3. What is your dream?
