  • chinese pumps ?

anybody here ever buy an off-brand chinese pump? guy claims they can provide a 3phase /60hz pump at 1hp with sanitary heads for around 500 bucks. max flow is 12 gals/minute, max head is like 50ft. stainless washdown motor. sits on a little stainless stand. (not a cart though)

any brave souls out there take the plunge? experience?

As someone who has had no-brand Chinese pumps come as part of a horrible packaged deal...I would advise against this. Quality equipment from reputable sources usually makes better beer...I know that sounds like an ad but it's pretty much the way it is.

The pumps that we got from Gavin at sungood are 3 phase 1.5 horse 208v, and have worked well for the 5 months we've used them so far. His 240v pumps are UL listed

          Chinese pumps

We have had trouble with those types of pumps so we started using pumps from CPE to go with our systems so they have the UL certifications and our customers can use the warranty from the company itself, good luck.

          cheers!

            Run away...

Run, don't walk away from the idea....
            Do not cut this corner.
Go with Something like Waukesha for brew side and Goulds for glycol side.
Learn how to correctly set up the mechanical seals and stock parts from the get go.
Also learn something about RLA and how to know when you are overloading a pump.

If I was in China and had the time to evaluate some of their products, I might have a different opinion after having dealt with running the product over time and dealing with all aspects of getting repair parts etc.

I was kicking around the idea of these chinese pumps as well. I'm in need of four, 1/2hp sanitary pumps, 120v for mixing my soda constantly in the brite tank. Anyone have a source that isn't crazy expensive? Chinese sources on ebay quote $300 delivered!

i got sidetracked and havent circled back to this. with all respect to starcat, i dont see an issue with chinese pumps. all of the pumps at the restaurant/bar side of the operation work fine. all chinese made, sold in mexico. and while i agree that we should all know how to service our pumps and equipment when necessary, the fact is that its so laughably cheap for us to have pump guys in mexico fix things its not even worth my time to bother with it.

not sure what happened, but the electrician did something to burn out one of our glycol pumps. it was repaired and back in service within 24 hours at a cost of about $20. amazing. not a peep out of it since it happened.

so to answer your question- i havent pulled the trigger yet. but for $300 bucks delivered, with sanitary fittings, stainless washdown motors, 3/4 hp, 230v 3phase and vfd capability ill eventually buy one just for the experiment of it. and some extra gaskets and seals.

if you are worried about having to deal with china for extra parts,gaskets/seals in the future you have another option. st pats of texas has sanitary 1/2hp pumps at 120v. you cant get a vfd on them, so you can only control the speed with a valve to throttle the output, which is a bummer. but ours works fine. even with hot wort. specs say dont go above 150F, but we've had no issues. all parts and materials are rated over 150F, so not clear why this states that limit. a user here by the name of jonnymax or johnnymax out in texas was the inspiration. he has some older threads here in the nano section i believe.
