  • Head Brewer Needed for Innovative, Rapidly-Expanding KOMBUCHA & JUN Brewery

Rapidly-Expanding Kombucha Brewery in Portland in need of experienced brewer with deep understanding of lab work and the scientific method to contribute to our growth. SOMA Kombucha is possibly the best of its kind in the world - we've developed a long-fermentation process that produces thousands of times more probiotics and nutrients than any other brand, it's the only naturally-carbonated booch (at least in this market) and many of our customers say that they hated kombucha until they tried SOMA.

Your job will be a marriage of innovation, creative problem-solving, research and development, and management. You will both pencil out improvements to our keg-filling systems while managing a team of 1-3 people to fill kegs and keep the area organized and sanitary. You will both test pH, brix, and other components, then spend half the day filling drums for bottling, blending fermenters to neutralize flaws that we find in our product for the perfect balanced booch. You will manage our alcohol testing plan and starter cultivation procedures and introduce SOPs when needed.

You must be obsessive about keeping work areas clean, sanitary, and organized. If you touch something sticky it will bug you until you have a chance to clean it. It's your nature to put everything away and leave the area awesome at the end of your shift.

We are moving into a new production facility in 5-6 months (which we're building from scratch) and currently working with the constraints of the space we're in, which has some issues. You are flexible enough to do your very best given whatever is thrown at you. Satisfaction in a job well done is one of your greatest pleasures.

We are looking for one of two possibilities - 1) a long-term, key brewery employee that can manage staff and grow with us for many years or 2) a consultant that can work with us for 6-12 months and systematize all of our processes, help us upscale into our new brewery space, and leave us wiser and more efficient.

To apply, send your resume as an attachment and include a brief cover letter detailing why you think you'll be a good fit. Also please include your pay requirements (we are too small to offer health benefits currently).

A 4-year or master's degree in a life science is preferred but not necessary. We may fly a potential hire to Portland for an interview, and relocate the right candidate.

Please email contact@SympleFoods.com with a resume and cover letter, or a question or two so you can refine your submission.
