  • Insurance Coverage

    Hey everyone,

We're wondering what everyone's insurance coverage looked like? What numbers are we talking on your liability insurance? (2 million/1 million per occurrence)

Also when did you guys get liquor liability, it doesn't make sense in my head to have it during the buildout since we obviously won't be serving. How much does your liquor liability cover in terms of $ per occurrence?

During the build phase of the project, a "Builder's Risk" policy is the best option. This type of policy will cover the premises liability and provide coverage for materials and equipment being used in the up-fit of the facility. Once the build out is complete and you are ready to start brewing, you will then need to establish a policy that covers your general liability (premises and operations) along with Liquor liability coverage (usually $1M/occurrence). There is also an umbrella option that will provide additional coverage over the limits specified in each policy. You are correct on the liquor liability, there is no need for the coverage if you have no exposure during the build phase. Pricing for a Builders Risk Policy varies on location, building valuation, amount of upgrades, etc... General liability and liquor liability premiums are based from revenues.

I hope this helps. Best of Luck!

    Cheers,

    Brandon
