Market Brewing Company is hiring!
Market Brewing Company is an award-winning brewery in Newmarket. We run a 17.5HL semi-automated 2 vessel DME brewing system with an in house canning line. We are a microbrewery with planned continued expansion of our brewery and distribution network and we are looking for a Head Brewer to join our dynamic and innovative team.
Brewers hold an integral role in good breweries. We are a young brewery looking for someone to further develop and enhance our suite of beer. We are open to unique and exciting new recipes to assist in developing our brand image as an on-trend brewery. We will rely on you to ensure that the brewery is running smoothly, this includes preparing ingredients and materials, keeping on top of maintenance and housekeeping, operating machinery and quality control.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about beer and has a wealth of creativity. Previous experience in a brewery is a must. The ideal candidate will want to earn "skin in the game" and be interested in compensation of a share portion of the company after a proven time period.
Job Duties:
Manage all aspects of brewhouse operation including water treatment, wort production, yeast management, fermentation control and documentation, vessel CIP, beer transfer, and packaging
Select raw materials that are used in the brewing process, including ordering, stock control and rotation, forecasting, and evaluation
Develop an annual tactical plan and budget for the brewery. Achieve all goals set and work within a specific budget, staffing decisions and event supplies must be managed to fit within that specific budget
Record keeping and quality control
Check brew conditions
Develop new unique brewing recipes to meet market demand
Managing key production requirements and setting KPIs
Manage packaging both kegging and canning
Manage maintenance schedule on the equipment and production line
Management and training of the brewing team
Co-ordination and inventory management with offsite warehouse and distributors.
Advise on capital expenditure
Ensure that all vessels, equipment and facilities are kept clean and hygienic
Carry out any general housekeeping required in the brewery to ensure that it is safe and well organized
Produce beer that is consistent, free from defects, true to style (as we or the customer defines it) and of the highest quality
Create and manage a brew schedule
Handling of brewery waste streams and ensuring correct disposal and recycling
Ensure that the day to day management of Health and Safety is in line with company policies
Attending beer festivals and meet the brewer events
Focus on supporting, building and promoting the brand
Assist in leading brewery tours
Prepared to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends if necessary.
Must be willing to pitch in on tasks that are outside core responsibilities
Job Requirements:
A degree in one or more of the following areas:Brewing and distillingChemistryChemical engineeringMicrobiology
Food science or food technology
3-5 years experience as a brewer in a brewery producing at least 1,000hl per year
Demonstrated ability to manage beer production throughout the process
Experience in managing staff
Experience in keeping records for quality control
Experience managing projects
Mechanical or engineering experience
Excellent communication skills
Computer literacy and technological skills
Capable of innovation and continual improvement
Safety as a critical focus
Dependable and punctual
Creative and multi skilled
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Able to function effectively in a production atmosphere
