    Benchtop Brewing is just over a 1 yr old and has already won gold medals in the Virginia Craft Brewers Guild and GABF competitions. We focus on farm to glass styles that utilize local ingredients/businesses, kettle souring, and juicy hop bombs. We have a 7 bbl brewhouse with a current annual capacity of 1750 bbl and we will be adding much needed additional capacity as soon as we get this new hire up to speed. We are just getting our barrel program going and we are looking to invest in that area. This position will start primarily cleaning, keg washing, and packaging. However, ambition and ability will be rewarded and there is tremendous room for growth here.

    Job Prerequisites:

    *1 year of experience in a production brewery of comparable size or larger is preferred.
    *Valid drivers license.
    *Brewing education and/or bachelors degree in relevant science preferred, but not required.
    *A basic understanding of scientific principles and the ability to apply that knowledge to practical applications.
    *Technical and practical knowledge of brewing, fermentation, and the finishing stage of beer production
    *A general thirst for knowledge and desire to innovate.

    What we are looking for:

    Flexibility to work varied hours and long days when production levels increase as necessary.

    Excellent mechanical aptitude, problem solving skills, and understanding of mechanical systems.

    The ability to work independently

    A commitment to quality, safety, efficiency and consistency at all times

    The ability to lift 55 lbs above your head and the ability to work long periods on your feet, work at heights, crouch down, twist, turn, and work in extreme temperatures.

    Responsibilities include:


    • Execute any and all brewery operations tasks laid out by Head Brewer and/or Lead Brewer
    • Cleaning of kegs, brewery equipment, brewery facility.
    • Assist in monthly grain and keg inventories for P&L statements
    • Taking of daily cellar/fermentation log readings
    • Positively and professionally represent the brewery at beer festivals, including set up and break down of equipment.
    • Packaging beer to include kegging, canning, bottling etc..
    • Proper maintenance of laboratory equipment.
    • Assisting in preparing ingredients for brewing.
    • Assisting in yeast handling and maintenance as needed.
    • Assisting in processing fruits/vegetables
    • Assisting in yeast handling and maintenance as needed.
    • Adherence to established SOP’s and proper record keeping.
    • Operating a 7 bbl brewhouse when knowledge base and experience is sufficient to do so.

    Cellar Person/Assistant Brewer reports to the Production Manager/Head Brewer.
