    If relationship building, negotiation, and strong analytical skills come second nature, you might be the right fit for us. We are a mission driven kombucha brewery located just outside of Asheville, NC and are scaling rapidly to meet sales demand. The ideal candidate would have a minimum of 3 years experience in sourcing. The Strategic Sourcing Specialist will build our supply chain to deliver cost savings and ensure consistent supply of our raw materials and packaging.

    Position Description

    The Strategic Sourcing Specialist is tasked with solving problems, increasing efficiency, and, by building relationships with suppliers, negotiating cost and developing agreements that ultimately help our company grow and become more profitable. To ensure all aspects of this position are performed as expected, measurable metrics will be provided along with regularly scheduled performance reviews. The Strategic Sourcing Specialist reports to our Leadership team.

    Responsibilities

    Responsible for the procurement of all components and materials required for new product development, product changes, promotional programs and current product lines.

    - Proactively identify and source packaging components and other key materials outlined by the marketing team (including packaging and raw materials), providing a competitive advantage in cost, quality and functionality.
    - Evaluate quotes and ensure they meet the specifications required, proactively source alternative options if needed.
    - Negotiate vendor terms and product buy quantities to ensure components and finished goods meet established inventory targets.
    - Negotiate pricing and manage to cost targets defined by the marketing team.
    - Organize and present quotes and product specs to cross-functional team leads.
    - Keep the Product Database up to date and accurate
    - Keep COGS up to date and accurate
    - Initiate and maintain relationships with suppliers of raw materials to be used in the manufacture of our beverages.
    - Work with suppliers to bring in new ingredients and to support the supply chain for current raw materials.
    - Maintain documentation pertaining to suppliers and raw materials.
    - Carry out online research, write summaries, create spreadsheets.
    - Develop market expertise for key materials and associated manufacturing processes, industry standards and price trends.
    - Drive growth and cost savings for the organization by successfully managing domestic as well as international suppliers.
    - Use problem solving techniques to resolve procurement issues and achieve resolution to maintain production timelines.
    - Takes ownership and responsibility for communicating and correcting deficiencies in supplier performance.

    Develop and maintain successful supplier partnerships, proactively bringing forth vendor capabilities and costs savings opportunities.

    - Qualify any new partnerships ensuring compliance with all applicable manufacturing standards: Organic Certification, Fair Trade, Non- GMO etc.
    - Collaborate with cross functional internal and external teams to identify and leverage cost savings opportunities through strong supplier partnerships.
    - Adhere to the co-pack strategy and vendor qualification process aligning suppliers with current and future business needs.
    - Perform analysis of supplier performance with well defined key performance indicators (KPIs), customer expectations, corrective actions and opportunities to improve.
    - Participate in supplier visits and audits to drive continuous improvement activities.
    - Adhere to in-house procurement and supplier approval policies

    Serve as the Project Manager overseeing new product development with all suppliers from project initiation through 1st run of production.

    - Leads, guides and coaches cross functional team members through the implementation of projects that are focused on new products, innovative solutions and cost savings opportunities.
    - Provide transition plans to purchasing team to ensure orderly move from initial sourcing and vendor development to ongoing procurement of products and services.
    - Organize & coordinate sample stock with R&D
    - Proactively and effectively communicate project direction and status to cross-functional team members.
    - Responsible for the delivery of projects, on time and budget.
    - Ensures project objectives are met and clearly communicate any risks that may occur throughout the implementation process.
    - Other duties as assigned.

    Food Safety and Quality responsibilities:

    - Follow cGMP policy when going into production
    - Understand basics of Pest Control and inform Quality Control when there is a sighting.
    - Is aware of food defense / visitor policy and will assist with making sure all visitors are accompanied by an employee at all times.
    - Has a thorough understanding of Allergen Management policy and follows appropriate procedures.
    - Is aware of Management's Commitment to SQF and will work towards Food Safety and Quality and helps company meet this commitment.
    - Has a thorough understanding of the Approved Supplier Policy and follows appropriate procedures.
    - Has a thorough understanding of the Raw and Packaging Materials Policy and follows appropriate procedures.
    - Has a thorough understanding of the Food Fraud Policy and follows appropriate procedures.
    - If there is a problem that involves food quality and safety, it is reported to Brewery Operations Manager so that the CAPA log may be filled out, the situation be investigated, and resolved with the goal continual improvement of food quality and safety.

    - Strong communication skills- must have good listening skills in addition to excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
    - Ability to self-motivate and problem solve in a fast paced setting filled with defined deadlines.
    - Passion for high quality food ingredients
    - Strong Excel skills
    - Minimum 3+ years of experience in sourcing

    Hours and Compensation:

    - This position is Exempt Salary
    - Compensation TBD based on experience
    - Eligible for Health, Vision, Dental Insurance Coverage after 90 days.
    - 10 days Paid Time Off per year to start
    - 7 Holidays (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and Your Birthday!)
