    We are looking for a Brewer 1 for our Pearl District location in Portland Oregon. This pub brewery is focused on high volume beers.

    Brewer Position Summary:
    The Brewer should be passionate about craft brewing, inspiring and coaching others. Their position is responsible for the entire beer making process, including selection of ingredients, creating beer recipes, overseeing the mixing of ingredients and the fermentation process and ensuring all quality standards.

    Brewer Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Adhere to brewing facility annual budgets
    • Maintain brewery building and equipment using proper operating, preventative maintenance and cleaning/sanitation procedures
    • Ensure all safety and security policies and procedures are followed, regular safety training is conducted and address all safety hazards immediately
    • Establish, maintain and continually evaluate vendors to ensure the highest quality and proper costs of all ingredients, materials and supplies
    • Ensure correct inventory levels are maintained for all raw and finished products
    • Participate in brewery festivals and promotional events
    • Assist management with future planning for growth of brewery operations/production
    • Ensure 100 % compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations, company policies, guidelines and procedures
    • Maintains an open door policy with all brewing staff allowing for open and honest communication, consistency of standards and appreciation for contributions and suggestions.
    • Participates in informative, focused weekly meetings with other brewing staff that includes a written agenda.
    • Builds positive, professional relationships with all brewing staff, ensuring positive morale and providing a fun work environment
    • Maintains utility conservation and creates awareness.
    • Upholds daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly production/sales goals to meet or exceed budgeted expectations.
    • Record and report brewery efficiency measures as determined by the appropriate personnel
    • Meets or exceeds budgeted profit goals, reacts to trends, troubleshoots problem areas.
    • Ensures weekly cycle counts are completed for all brewing components and ensures inventory accuracy is maintained in the correct system
    • Proactively maintains and manages all repair and maintenance issues, ensuring the brewery is kept in “like new” condition
    • Regularly communicates with other departments to efficiently deliver product for packaging/shipping and for the brewery’s needs
    • Completes all other assigned duties or tasks.





    Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

    • Experience and passion for a wide variety of beer styles is preferred
    • Certification or degree in brewing science or brewing related field and/or degree/coursework from a recognized Brewing School preferred
    • Minimum of 2 years brewery/brewing industry experience preferred
    • Strong technical knowledge with all aspects of the brewing process
    • Strong mechanical understanding of the brewing process and equipment
    • Candidates must be highly motivated, self-directed, and results driven with strong organizational skills, attention to detail and professional written and verbal communication skills.
    • Must possess solid skills with basic mathematical computations and have basic computer functions knowledge, including MS Office
    • Forklift certified or willingness to become certified is preferred
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends during peak business times
    • This position requires a valid driver's license to travel between facilities, a satisfactory background check, and the ability to meet the physical demands of the position detailed below.

    Fast paced work environment. Primarily inside brewing facility with frequent exposure to hot work areas and cold storage areas. Operating machinery makes the brewery area noisy and potentially slippery. Some cleaning/maintenance responsibilities are performed outdoors in the elements like rain, snow, sleet, hail, sun, hot and cold. Ability to work irregular hours, nights, weekends and holidays.
