  • Sticking wrapped cans

So we have used two different providers for wrapped cans. There are some runs with no issues. But this last batch, the cans are sticking to each other on conveyor after depalletization. This is making it so the cans are unable to aline to go down the shoot. The first can provider stated that it was due to an issue with the label maker. I then tried out our newer provider and had no issues. Well, I just received a new truck load of cans and now having the same issue. The only solution I have found is to pay a guy to stand on a ladder and when the cans stick, to manual push them along.

Has anyone else had this issue? Any solutions?

Does anyone know what is causing them to "stick" together?

    We had the same issue

I had the same issue with sleeved cans. I bought these 2 items : https://www.tudorgames.com/gear/part...action-rc.html

    and this: https://www.tudorgames.com/field-drive.html

I go through about 4 AA batteries a week running 4-5 shifts @ 8 hours per run. Problem solved.

Interesting. Where did you mount it? On top the chute?

Our company prints cans in low volume, no more cans sticking together. We can only print on the flat

          Hello JLoughran,

You have probably already figured this out since this was posted almost 4 years ago, but I am just finding it now. The cans are sticking together due to the fact that they are wrapped in plastic. With printed cans or brite cans, you do not get this friction. Additionally the type of "finish" on the sleeve can cause it to be worse. For example, the "High Gloss" sleeves are much stickier than the "matte" sleeves.

From reading your message it sounds like you have a depal and the cans are sticking together or clumping on the conveyor before entering the rinse cage. If you are using a Ska Fab depal, they have a plug-in (120V) simple vibrator that you mount to the rails of the conveyor, close to where the rinse cage mounts to the depal conveyor. This aids in keeping the cans moving on the conveyor and aids the cans moving through the rinse cage because the vibration is just enough to agitate the rinse cage as well. If it's not a Ska Fab depal, their vibrator would still work, you just might need to figure out how to mount it.

If you required sleeved cans, then this will continue to be an issue, unless you create some kind of vibration. I am guessing that is what GulfSide suggested but the links are expired.

          Cheers!
