  • Scaling water treatment plans

Hi folks, I'm in discussion with a mate at the moment about water treatment approaches in scaling a batch up from 50l to 6 or 20hec. He has noticed in the past on a couple of occasions that salt additions do not seem to scale linearly. I can't get my head around how that could be, nor have I noticed it myself. Has anybody else noticed this or come up with a reason?

To further qualify, he finds that treating water to reach X ppm of a given ion in a 50l batch yields the expected result, but treating larger volumes to the same ppm yields too much mineral character.

I've had a bit of a poke around and couldn't find anything.

    Thanks,
    Fraz

Your mate has been drinking too much. If the dosing is performed correctly in any size batch, X ppm will taste the same.

My thoughts exactly. I guess now I need to figure out how he's dosing his liquor...
