    QA/QC Manager

    Magpie Brewing Company is looking to hire a QA/QC Manager to join our production team on Jeju Island in South Korea.

    Magpie began as one of the first craft breweries in South Korea six years ago. Currently, our head office and two of our retail shops are located in Seoul, while our brewery and another retail location are on Jeju Island. We are owned by a mix of locals and foreigners (Koreans / Canadian / Americans), but we pride ourselves on being an active part of the local community.

    We are a 15 BBL production brewery with 5 core beers, rotating seasonals and one offs. We are currently focusing on expanding our sour offerings and a regular barrel program, as well as including packaged cans and bottles to our distribution.

    Magpie is growing quickly these days, as is the whole of the Korean craft beer market, and we need to bring in some additional talented staff. The right candidate will be detail oriented, have a passion for craft beer, a desire to learn and a work as a member of our production team. Must be able to understand and adhere to clean and safe work practices and have a positive attitude. Previous biochemical experience and hands on Lab Work in the food and beverage industry is required.

    Responsibilities:
    – Work with the Head Brewer to develop standardized practices for analytical testing of wort, beer and packaged product.
    – Collect data to determine best practices and maintain high quality and efficiency of finished product.
    – Conduct regular lab analysis from pre-fermentation to finished goods (including yeast analysis, plating and incubation, CO2, DO and seam testing).
    – Assist cellar staff in cellar Monitoring and proper record keeping (including gravity, PH checks and titration).
    – Wort and Beer transfers.
    – Provide Quality Control assistance to retail and distribution staff, occasional travel for outside accounts and staff training.
    – Occasional attendance at festivals and trade shows (including brewing education events).

    Desired Skills and Experience:
    – Experience working in a production brewery, brew pub or a related food and beverage industry.
    – Experience with laboratory analysis and testing. Must be knowledgeable and proficient with laboratory equipment (experience developing SOPs is preferred).
    – Four year degree or higher in chemistry, food science or a related field (brewing education is beneficial, but not required)
    – Must have a proven track record of maintaining safety and sanitation with attention to detail in a lab environment.
    – Able to read and follow written instructions in English.

    Physical Requirements:
    – Able to stand for prolonged periods.
    – Able to stoop, crawl, twist, turn, lift, kneel, climb ladders and stairs.
    – Able to manipulate valves and clamps.
    – Ability to safely work in loud, hot, cold and humid environments.
