    Magpie Brewing Company is looking to hire a Head Brewer to join our production team on Jeju Island in South Korea.

    Magpie was one of the first craft breweries in South Korea, starting in 2011 and helping to kickstart the craft beer scene. Currently, our head office and two of our retail shops are located in Seoul, while our brewery and another retail location are on Jeju Island. We are owned by a mix of locals and foreigners (Koreans/Canadian/Americans) and we pride ourselves on being an active part of the local community.

    We are a 15 BBL production brewery with 5 core beers, rotating seasonals and one offs, with an in-house canning line, Meheen bottle filler and widespread keg distribution. We are currently focused on building brewery efficiencies and growing our QC/QA efforts, as well as instituting a barrel program.

    Responsibilities:
    • Manage all aspects of brewhouse operation including water treatment, wort production, yeast management, fermentation control and documentation, vessel CIP, beer transfer, and packaging.
    • Record keeping with strict attention to detail, develop and maintain SOP’s and standards for all departments and overseeing and maintaining quality control program and staff.
    • Achieve all production goals set and work within a specific budget, make staffing training and scheduling decisions, manage key production requirements.
    • Coordinate shipping, logistics and inventory management with operations manager.
    • Ensure all beer produced is consistent, free from defects, true to style and of the highest quality, as well as developing new and exciting beers.
    • Must be willing to pitch in on any job or task necessary for production and assist all staff when required.
    • Provide proactive leadership, promote work safety at all times and oversee all production employees.
    • Attending beer festivals, trade shows and meet the brewer events, and host traveling beer industry professionals.

    Desired Skills and Experience:
    • At least 3 years in a management or supervisor role in a production brewery
    • Experience with recipe development, SOP development and maintaining a quality control program.
    • Formal brewing education or a degree in a relevant field is beneficial, but not required.
    • Must have a proven track record of maintaining safety and sanitation with attention to detail in a production environment.
    • High level written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with staff with varying English language competency is necessary.
    • Experience of living and working in a foreign country is favorable.

    Physical Requirements:
    • Able to stand for prolonged periods.
    • Able to stoop, crawl, twist, turn, lift, kneel, climb ladders and stairs.
    • Able to manipulate valves and clamps.
    • Ability to safely work in loud, hot, cold and humid environments.
