  • Insulating Glycol Lines

I have inherited a system where the glycol moves through plastic lines and also copper piping on the tanks. I am particularly worried about the copper pipes conducting heat from the environment into the glycol.

How big a problem is this and what concerns are there with insulating the pipes?

Bigger problem is the drippy mess of non insulated lines. There is some gain, but unless us several feet over a warm area, your chiller won't know the difference.

Depending on the line size, you may be able to pick up some "armaflex" pipe insulation at your local big box store. They won't stock larger than 3/4" usually. There are online sellers or call your a/c or refrigeration contractor, they can get it from their wholesalers.
