    Job Title: Taproom Manager

    Position Category: Full Time

    Overview of Position

    Mighty Squirrel is in the process of building a brewery in Waltham, MA. Our 30-bbl and 5-bbl brewhouses are being installed in August and commissioned in September. We are looking for a fun, motivated, and self-starting individual to join the team as a Taproom Manager. You will be responsible for delivering an exceptional customer experience. You will lead and train the team of bartenders in the taproom, focusing on customer service and beer knowledge, and you will also be responsible for cultivating and managing fun, interesting events in the taproom. Mighty Squirrel is looking for a candidate that is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about craft beer and wants to grow professionally with Mighty Squirrel. The ideal candidate will have management experience, be passionate, committed, relentlessly quality-focused, a good listener, mentor, and teammate. This position will report to our Director of Sales. You will ideally be able to join our team by the end of August at the latest.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensure we have a well-oiled taproom operation
    • Develop an extensive taproom launch plan
    • Create detailed SOPs for all aspects of the taproom, coffee shop, and retail bar
    • Hold all crew members accountable to taproom operating procedures
    • Ensure taproom opening and closing is well managed
    • Oversee and improve customer service (greeting, educating, processing transactions)
    • Develop business strategies to attract more customers, expand store traffic, and optimize profitability
    • Maintain clean and inviting/welcoming environment with a primary focus on customer experience
    • Deal with all issues that arise from staff and/or customers
    • Plan, organize, market, and execute events
    • Develop rich partnerships
    • Help coordinate beer releases and tours
    • Hire, onboard, supervise, manage, and schedule taproom staff as well as assistant taproom managers
    • Coordinate with management on production forecasting
    • Ensure all safety protocols are observed in the taproom; train, reinforce and improve a safety culture and attitude in taproom operations
    • Oversee tracking and recording key measurements in the taproom (labor, sales, inventory, shrinkage, etc.)
    • Monitor and approve payroll records
    • Initiate and run staff meetings and trainings as necessary
    • Utilize social media to consistently promote events and new beer releases
    • Maintain and develop all taproom marketing pieces/collateral
    • Must be TIPS Certified
    • Ensure all staff are trained/certified in conjunction with all MA and federal regulatory requirements
    • Ensure all staff pass the Cicerone Server Exam prior to starting job
    • Perform consistent and frequent staff training on beer profiles, style history, sensory notes, etc.
    • Represent Mighty Squirrel at industry technical events, conferences, and marketing events
    • Set and maintain appropriate food service standards for any food vendors on the premise
    • Ensure draft equipment is routinely cleaned and serviced
    • Conduct annual performance reviews with all direct reports
    • Perform preventative maintenance on facility and equipment
    • Update and maintain POS terminals
    • Able to work any taproom position as necessary
    • Must be able to work some weekends, evenings, and holidays; a typical week will be working two evenings/week including a Friday or Saturday evening.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum two years of experience managing a taproom/bar
    • In depth knowledge of the craft beer industry and emerging trends
    • Previous event management experience
    • A college degree is preferred but not required
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-tasking; strong communication skills
    • Ability to lift 55 lbs. and move up to 165 lbs. using traditional methods
    • Ability to work in a fast paced environment yet be precise in daily tasks
    • Excellent time management, prioritization, and delegation skills
    • Organized, detail-oriented, and attentive to quality and standards
    • Confident, team-oriented management style
    • Full availability throughout the week: ability to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends as needed
