Position: Brewer/Cellar Person
Reports to: Head Brewer
Position Type: Full-time/Hourly/Non-exempt
Pay Rate: Dependent on Experience
Job Description:
You will be responsible for and not limited to any and all brewing and cellar related duties based on our production schedule.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Work in a safely manner
Have passion for producing quality beer
General Cleaning and Maintenance of workspace on a daily basis
Wort Production (15bbl brewhouse)
Milling raw material
Safely remove spent grain from mash/lauter tun
Safely handle hazardous cleaning and sanitation chemicals
CIP and Sanitation of fermenters, brite tanks and brewhouse vessels
General tank and cellar cleaning duties
Yeast Management
Monitoring Fermentation
Cellar Duties: Gravity checks, trub dumps, yeast harvesting, dry hopping & transfers
Perform basic lab duties: cell counts, viability, pH monitoring
Carbonating and monitoring beer for packaging
Maintain detailed and accurate brewing fermentation and packaging logs
Packaging Duties: Kegging, Canning and limited bottling
Ability to efficiently operate keg washer
Represent Burgeon Beer Company at a variety of festivals, events, etc.
Filling and de-barreling a variety of barrels
Monitor raw materials inventory
Maintain organization in the coldbox
Safely operate forklift, scissor lift, and ladders
Report all maintenance and safety related issues
Qualifications:
Must be 21 years or older
Minimum 2 years experience in a production brewery or high volume brewpub
Strong understanding of the fundamentals of brewing science
Must have a Bachelor’s degree
Accredited brewing education is a plus
Experience with recipe development is a plus
QA/QC experience is a plus
Ability to read, understand and follow all Production SOPs
Basic computer skills
Strong focus on safety and efficiency
Must have attention to detail
Self-motivated problem solver
Strong mechanical aptitude
Ability to maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude
Good communication skills
Flexible schedule requirements, weekends and some holidays
Ability to frequently and safely move up to 170 pounds
Ability to safely work with potentially hazardous chemicals
Must have a strong work ethic and ability to multi-task
Ability to obtain forklift certification
Must be able to work in confined spaces
