    Assistant Cidermaker

    Location: Hampton, Virginia
    Status: Full-Time

    Sly Clyde Ciderworks has really big plans and it all starts at its Hampton, Virginia location. Just blocks from the beach and bathed by the sun, Sly Clyde is selling Virginia’s first beach-based cider in bars, restaurants, and its own tasting room. We are looking for someone to join our award-winning team of cidermakers in crafting delicious hard ciders made from 100% Virginia apples.

    The Assistant Cidermaker will assist in all areas of cider development, production, and packaging.

    They will have a chance to be closely mentored by our nationally acclaimed Head Cidermaker with the goal of rapid advancement in knowledge and skills related to cider production.

    Responsibilities

    Assist Head Cidermaker in all aspects of the following:
    • Fermentation
    • Product Development
    • Packaging
    • Bottling, Canning, Pasteurization, Racking Kegs
    • Keg Cleaning
    • Tank Cleaning
    • Filtration
    • Preparation for Juice Shipments
    • Preparation of finished cider
    • Operation of forklift, pallet jack, electric pallet jack
    • Regular organization of pallets, finished goods, dry goods
    • Receiving deliveries, loading distribution trucks
    • Tasting Room education and keg room maintenance


    Requirements

    Required Experience
    • At least 1 year at cidery, brewery, or winery in a production capacity. Please do not apply if you cannot meet this criteria.

    Other Requirements
    • Practical knowledge of fermentation, sanitation, and cellar equipment. Knowledge particular to cider production and filtration is encouraged.
    • Strong work ethic, communication skills, and mechanical ability.
    • Imaginative and creative mind.
    • Ability to work independently to accomplish daily and weekly tasks without much oversight as well as to be a team player on a small and tightly-knit team.
    • Flexible schedule; ability to periodically work extremely early or extremely late in the day, sometimes at short notice.



    Physical Requirements
    • Ability to reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
    • Ability to physically operate a standing or sitting forklift
    • Ability to work near moving mechanical parts in moderate noise level
    • Ability to stand for long periods at a time
    • Ability to frequently and safely lift and/or move up to 160 pounds
    • Frequently exposed to strong and sometimes disagreeable odors and occasionally exposed to caustic chemicals
    • Vision: close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
