Position Overview

We have an opening for a 2nd shift Maintenance Technician position in our Boston Brewery. This position is perfect for a motivated technician who has developed an advanced, well-rounded set of skills including: electrical, instrumentation and controls, industrial programming, and some mechanical maintenance.

The ideal candidate is methodical and patient, works well under pressure, and enjoys a challenge. The ideal candidate is expected to help troubleshoot ongoing technical problems, lead projects, and look at equipment and systematically understand how it operates. The candidate should have working knowledge of packaging equipment, batching, and thermal controls, and have the ability to quickly adapt to change, multitask, and adjust priorities as breakdowns occur.


  • 2-year technical degree or applicable technical experience
  • Must have a technical/mechanical background with 3+ years of experience setting up and servicing packaging and batching equipment
  • Ability to perform advanced electrical and mechanical troubleshooting
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, and blue prints
  • Technical experience with packaging equipment including fillers for bottles and cans, labelers, case packers, and other packaging equipment included on automated packaging line
  • Ability to work flexible hours to support projects, line start-ups, CIP’s, and changeover
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal direct supervision in a dynamic environment
  • Proper use and understanding of PPE, LOTO, and Risk Management
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Ability to operate a forklift (Massachusetts 1D Hoisting License is recommended)

Other Skills

  • Ability to develop, install, and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers such as Siemens PCS 7, Allen-Bradley SLC 500, and RSLogix 5000
  • Knowledge of communications modules and protocols to include Ethernet, Devicenet, and Profibus
  • Experience adding and modifying SCADA and HMI hardware and software to include AB Panelviews and Siemens WinCC


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performing advanced electrical, programming, and mechanical troubleshooting on all equipment
  • Working with a team to review work, set priorities, and schedule maintenance repairs
  • Entering and completing work orders by logging actions and findings in an accurate and timely fashion in a maintenance program
  • Ability to accurately diagnose the source of failures and make emergency repairs to all mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and electronic systems as needed to return systems to service and minimize production downtime
  • Ensuring efficient and long-lasting operation of equipment and facility
  • Assisting plant operations in setting up and making running adjustments to equipment to maintain maximum efficiency
  • Assisting production staff in performing their duties through direction, training, and assistance
  • Completing time-sensitive projects and repair work as assigned by supervisor (this is often outside of core discipline)
  • Taking initiative each year to audit assigned equipment to improve or develop PM’s, troubleshooting guides, and standard operating procedures to meet and upkeep our standards
  • Attending and participating constructively in meetings
  • Safely using a wide variety of power and hand tools
  • Ensuring the equipment is set up, maintained, and operated to allow for efficient and safe packaging of quality product
  • Maintaining a clean and orderly work area and returning tools, equipment, and supplies to the appropriate storage areas after each assignment
  • Ability to install, set up, and troubleshoot communications modules and control components to include photo eyes, motor starters, Servo drives, encoders, relays, limit switches, proximity sensors, timers, solenoids, motors, and other line control devices
  • Handling a large work load with multiple preventive and repair tasks/projects
  • Ability to work a rotating on-call schedule for after-hour emergency repairs (every 6-7 weeks)

Working Environment

This position can be very physical in nature. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job you will be working over, under, and around potentially dangerous moving machinery in tight and cramped spaces. You will need to be able to work in awkward positions for extended periods of time and/or be able to stand for long periods of time. This position also requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds at shoulder length and up to 100 pounds in general. You must be comfortable working at heights while standing on a ladder or in a basket. This work environment involves indoor and outdoor activities in various temperatures and weather conditions. Employees are exposed to high levels of noise requiring the use of hearing protection. Visual abilities are required including close vision, color vision, and distance vision.
