Urban South Brewery is a team and community-focused company committed to making world-class beer located in New Orleans, LA. We opened in 2016 and are on pace to produce 12,000 bbls of beer in our second full calendar year of operation. We’re looking to grow that to 18,000 next year. POSITION SUMMARY: Manages production-side operations from grain to glass.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Adheres to and advances the mission and vision of Urban South Brewery.
• Embodies the core values and core competencies of Urban South Brewery.
• Works in partnership with the brewery’s leadership team to develop and maintain the company’s vision and culture.
• Oversees all aspects of brewery production, from grain to glass, including, but not limited to:

• ingredient sourcing/ordering/storage
• wort production
• yeast handling, pitching, fermentation, racking
• cleaning/sanitizing, etc.
• new product development
• data record keeping (Ekos Brewmaster)
• packaging
• quality control
  

• Manages and leads brewmaster/head/lead/assistant brewers, cellarmen, packaging manager and other production staff as necessary.
• Manages the development and implementation of a quality control lab.
• Develops and manages brewing and packaging operations schedule.
• Participates in brewery tours, taproom events, and other promotions/marketing when necessary.
• Attends all team meetings as requested.
• Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

• 10+ years of commercial brewing experience (15,000+ bbls annual production)
• Experience in leadership at a growing production brewery, including, but not limited to:
• leading production growth
• managing production schedules, equipment installs, etc.
• effectively managing and motivating a team, building a strong team culture
• Strong technical brewing background with wide knowledge of styles - from classic to emerging
• Strong mechanical aptitude, including troubleshooting ability and equipment operation experience
• Willingness to work hard in a fast-paced environment with high volume growth potential
• Strong communication skills
• Optimism and team-orientation; ability to effectively motivate and manage
• High degree of intellectual curiosity and desire to learn
• Strong physical ability – able to frequently lift 55# grain bags and service equipment, sometimes requiring bending, reaching, crouching, crawling
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and direct reports
• Ability to work independently with little supervision
