    Lead Brewer.

    We’re a small, award winning brewery in Seattle, WA. Ravenna Brewing. As we expand our production and taproom we’re also looking to expand our brewing horizons. We have a small sour and aging program currently in flight which is in need of a full time mixed culture, wild fermentation specialist brewer. The right candidate will be leading all aspects of our soon to be bigger barrel aging and sour program. Along with the overall management of "clean" & Sour barrel aging, this individual will be responsible for the production and ongoing care of our dedicated sour beer foeders, barrels, and brewhouse. This position is very unique as the right candidate will have the ability to steer, develop, and make a huge impact in the Seattle beer scene. We’re looking for an individual with specific set of skills which can push our brand and quality to the next level.

    Brewhouse Commissioning
    Getting in from the ground up and setting the stage at an early phase is key for success. Our expansion is about to start in the coming weeks and we’ll be commissioning our new 7 BBL Brewhouse when the time is right. The right candidate will:
    -Assist Head Brewer commissioning the new brewhouse.
    -Suggest improvements, tricks, or any input based on experience.
    -Commission new 15bbl FV's and 15bbl Foeder.

    The Job
    -Responsible for wort production and detailed record keeping.
    -Monitor fermentations, including routine analysis of in-process beer.
    -All cellar related operations. Responsible for fermentation and conditioning, including Fermenter, BBT, Fouder and Oak Barrel CIP procedures.
    -Dry-hopping, yeast management, transferring beers between tanks.
    -Manage the propagation of numerous wild yeast and bacteria including but not limited to brettanomyces, lactobacillus, and pediococcus.
    -Work with barrels; includes cleaning, fruiting, filling, and emptying oak barrels.
    -Package and transfer finished product. Clean and Sour beers.
    -Develop and create new projects and blends.
    -Help, create, and maintain brewhouse cleanliness guidelines. This includes all visual, and back of the house brewery equipment and implements. The right candidate will have a keen eye for this matter and a track record of over the top cleanliness.
    -Package finished beer to kegs, cans & bottles.
    -From time to time represent the brewery at events .ie festivals, brewers nights, and award ceremonies

    What must the ideal candidate have, experienced and lived.
    -Experience foeder aging, blending, fermenting, and souring.
    -Experience barrel aging, blending, fermenting, and souring.
    -Experience coolship’ing spontaneous fermentations.
    -Experience in a sour brewing facility.
    -Experience brewing NE Style & West Coast style IPA’s
    -Experience working in a commercial brewery
    -MUST have a sanitation, and cleanliness mentality
    -MUST have excellent communication skills.


    Job Requirements:

    -Ability to lift 75 pounds from floor to shoulder height.
    -Ability to lift or drag 165 pounds
    -Ability to stand, walk, crouch, and lift regularly throughout the duration of a shift.
    -Ability to work and focus in wet, loud, hot, and cold environments.
    -Ability to critically taste, evaluate, and discuss beer at various process points.
    -Extreme attention to detail.
