A Brewmaster at Abiagile is responsible for leading and participating in all aspects of the brewing process. This includes brewing, fermentation, cellaring, and finishing, as well as assisting with administrative and organizational duties. Any applicant considered for this position should be someone who is proactive and self-driven. The applicant should have a flexible schedule, and be available to work long hours and weekends if needed. The applicant should be comfortable occasionally representing the brewery in public at various events.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operation of the brewhouse, producing batches from start to finish
Organization of all brewing related notes from brew day through packaging, and ensuring that these logs are maintained properly by brewery personnel
Maintaining clean brewing practices in the brewhouse and cellar; organizing cleaning schedules and projects, and making sure they are followed precisely
Maintaining the glycol chiller and reservoir.
Informing and assisting maintenance staff in troubleshooting and fixing items mechanical issues as they arise, and following through to make sure the items are addressed
Monitoring raw material inventory
Organization of brewhouse schedule and projects
Ordering of raw materials and other various items used in the brewing process
Leading projects related to the production of beer; planning, organization, execution, and completion
Maintaining clean brewing practices in the brewhouse and cellar; organizing cleaning schedules and projects, and making sure they are followed precisely
Must always strive to find new ways to improve consistency, organization, cleanliness, and efficiency, and be able to report these strategies, implement and maintain them
Development of new recipes and improvement of existing recipes
Clean and maintain draft lines for Abiagile and Alta House
Requirements:
Two years’ experience in a commercial production brewery or high-volume brew pub
A strong passion for brewing modern American beers, as well as the desire to push the boundaries of experimental brewing
An advanced understanding of all aspects of brewing including cellaring, yeast handling, CIP, and sanitation practices
Strong organizational habits, a self-motivated work ethic, and good critical thinking/problem solving skills
Must have the schedule availability to work long hours and/or odd hours as needed to complete tasks
Flexibility in terms of hours and a willingness to work night shifts, weekends
Computer literate
Ability to multi-task
Ability to work as part of a team
Experience in any of the following is preferable, but not required:
An understanding of quality assurance methods and techniques, laboratory operations, and basic knowledge of chemistry and biology
Prior packaging, bottling, racking, and barrel aging experience
Mechanical experience and aptitude
