    Job Title: Assistant Brewer

    Job Description: Lost Winds Brewing Company is looking for a part-time Assistant Brewer! What does that mean?? As an Assistant Brewer, you will aid the Head Brewer with all Production tasks including, but not limited to, brewing, cellaring, packaging, cleaning, QA/QC, taproom beer line cleaning, and routine maintenance. We’re looking for someone with a strong ability to multitask, solid attention to detail, and must be eager to learn, listen, and ask questions. A positive attitude is a must. Sound fun? Good! These weekly tasks will be determined by the Head Brewer and will depend on the Production Schedule, which changes all the time, so get ready for a super-fast paced environment. The purpose of this position is to help with any production tasks needed, expand your production brewing knowledge, and help Lost Winds Brewing Company continue to make world class craft beer.     Preferred Experience: Everyone has to start in the craft beer industry somewhere, and that’s okay. Lost Winds Brewing Company is less than two years old, so we get it. If you are super easy to get along with, your knowledge and passion for craft beer is there, and you love to work your @$$ off, then you may be a perfect fit! However, we would prefer that you’ve had some experience, giving you a good understanding of the brewing process and raw materials. At least 1-2 years of experience in a Production Brewery, or a formal brewing education is preferred. Also, if you’ve made it this far, then we’re already assuming that you are passionate about local craft beer and have a somewhat strong background in brewing and raw materials. Good. Keep reading.

    Compensation: In this industry, it’s all about passion for craft beer, not planning for early retirement. If you’re still reading this…good. It’s reality. Lost Winds Brewing Company has an immediate opening for a part-time position that pays a competitive hourly rate depending on experience

    Essential job responsibilities: (additional tasks may be assigned as needed, and they will be…)
    -Learn and live the culture, history, policies, and vision of Lost Winds Brewing Company.
    -Assist Head Brewer with all aspects of the brewing process (milling, mashing, lautering, graining out, boiling, knocking out, etc.), fermentation (gravity checks, trub dumps, dry hopping, chilling, etc.), yeast management (yeast harvesting, yeast dumping, viabilities, cell counts, etc.), sanitarily transferring beers from fermentation vessels to bright tanks, carbonating beer to required packaging specs (checking CO2 levels with Zahm), packaging beer (kegs, or other packaging unit).
    -Perform CIPs on all brewing vessels, cellar vessels, hoses, and equipment according to the cleaning regimen while meeting all production time lines.
    -Maintain a safe, clean, and clutter-free brewery including tank interiors and exteriors, cold boxes, and cellar. Ensure that all parts and equipment are clean and housed in the appropriate location when not in use.
    -Follow cleaning procedures and help with maintaining taproom beer lines, as well as help with Crowler machine maintenance as needed.
    -Clean. Clean. Clean. Are you getting the point we’re trying to make? Cleanliness is very very important.
    -Assist with planning, ordering, and performing inventory counts of raw materials including, but not limited to, malt, hops, specialty ingredients, packaged beer, and beer-in-progress.
    -Clean kegs to ensure packaging schedule can be met for onsite and offsite requirements.
    -Monitor quality of beers including CO2 levels, head pressures and temperatures, flavor and aroma of beer-in-progress as well as finished beers, and be a component of beer knowledge for the rest of the team.
    -Work with Head Brewer and keep an improvement log for any recommendations or issues as they arise.
    -Represent Lost Winds Brewing Company at festivals and outside of work while promoting good community relations.
    -Complete all necessary data logging and paperwork properly and on time.
    -Assist with Lost Winds Brewing Barrel Program and other miscellaneous barrel-aging projects.

    Physical Requirements:
    -Must be able to safely lift 55 pounds multiple times and lift 170lb kegs with assistance on a daily basis. Additionally, standing, crouching, bending, twisting, and kneeling will be performed consistently throughout the day. It’s not as easy as it sounds.
    -Must be willing to work in both hot and cold environments where conditions can be wet, slippery, and loud.
    -Must be able to work professionally alongside people with differing philosophies and personalities.

    Hi,
