Job Title: Quality Assurance Manager
Location: Branford, CT
Reports To: Brewmaster/Plant Manager
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
Position Summary:
The Quality Assurance Manager will be responsible for both quality control and quality assurance. The ideal candidate should have, but not limited to a degree in Microbiology or related knowledge, experience in sanitary environments, lab and yeast experience. This position will have an input in all brewery operations.
A love of craft beer is a priority and the ability to work as a team is a must.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Yeast Management:
Manage all yeast health. Including ordering, propagating, monitoring viability, and pitch rates working closely with senior management and brewers.
Microbiological Testing:
Preparation of stock solutions and media/inoculating and incubating samples
Continual testing of all in-process and packaged product
Follow and develop new microbiological approaches and troubleshooting
Collection and management of samples according to the sampling plan
Collection and management of hot/cold archives of packaged beer
Lab Duties:
Manage the purchase, implementation, maintenance, of laboratory equipment and supplies
Calibration and maintenance of all analytical instruments
Leading and expanding a production staff sensory program
Use of lab equipment to measure TPO, color, IBU’s for all packaged beer
Miscellaneous:
Create and implement staff SOP’s that ensure quality and consistency
Record data accurately and promptly, report any and all issues to management
Assist in trouble-shooting activities
Maintaining a clean laboratory working environment
The ability to work unsupervised and manage your own time and the time of others effectively
Fermentation monitoring, including; gravity checks, tank pressurization, and temperature adjustments
Must be able to work cohesively with a tight-knit team

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:
Experience working in a QA/QC Lab preferred
Degree in microbiology is preferred or work experience
Attention to detail is a must
Ability to multi task
Knowledge of basic lab skills and procedures
Excellent communication
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and long hours
Ability to handle the workload and run different projects simultaneously
Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
Good mechanical skills
Work Environment:
Working on feet all day in the fermentation cellar and QA Lab. Sometimes wet, cold, hot & noisy areas, working with strong chemicals, pressure vessels, and machinery.
