Job Summary:

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Specifically, the responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following activities:
- Plan, implement & manage safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations
- Plan, implement & manage programs to train managers, leads and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, emergency planning, job-related safety tasks and correct handling techniques for chemicals and toxins (SDS), equipment, and other materials
- Manage all company safety related trainings and certifications including new hire safety orientation and trainings
- Inspect building facilities on a monthly basis to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented/corrected
- Lead and monitor monthly safety committee meetings and activities at all locations and prepare meeting agenda and minutes
- Provide and post information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions
- Manage all PPE for company; re-order as needed, ensure each area has PPE stocked (earplugs/eye protection etc.) and all are complying;
- Coordinate & manage hearing tests for hearing conservation program
- Manage first aid kids; ensure kits are in the right places, marked, and fully stocked
- Manage workers compensation insurance, employee injuries, claims, filing, and return to work; assist with loss prevention audits
- Lead the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperate in the preparation of materials and evidence for use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations
- Compile and submit all reports required by regulatory agencies as needed; update and finalize OSHA logs and postings
- Maintain all safety files, IIPP, related records and safety training records
- Randomly check workers in varying departments to ensure all safety policies and regulations are being followed, correct & discipline if needed
- Research and provide advice and information to management regarding safety/security/OSHA related questions
- Manage campus security; ensure that the plant can be properly secured via locks (especially bonded areas and high value areas); create & maintain a system of access appropriate to each position; coordinate and oversee the night watchman contractor keeping an eye on logs and other interface with security company
- Manage Paso campus security ID badges, issue to new hires, re-print as needed for lost/damaged badges
- Complete monthly fire extinguisher inspections; update tags
- Other safety related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University and three to five years related experience in a production/manufacturing environment and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Coursework and training in occupational safety requirements and CALOHSA guidelines is required
- OSHA 10-Hour Certification
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
- Knowledge of all applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations regarding safety & health in the work place and related topics
- Ability to create training programs and effectively train others
- Ability to be proactive, self-motivated and resourceful
- Strong planning and organizational skills as well as strong project management and coordination skills
- High attention to detail, ability to multitask and meet deadlines
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead by example
- Ability to travel between company locations in CA on a monthly basis
- Ability to operate and use a PC computer, research using the internet, and proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs.
