  • New Brewery in Missoula, MT-Seeking Head Brewer

    Black Timber Brewing Co is a start-up brewery in the heart of downtown Missoula, MT. Missoula is the home of the University of Montana, has excellent schools and medical care and close access to some of the best outdoor activities in the West. We expect our Brewer to work hard, be a part of our team and community and also have the time and ability to take advantage of the beautiful place that we live.

    We are looking for a self-motivated and dependable individual who has the desire and energy to build our beer and our brand. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience as a lead brewer, technical and mechanical experience and creativity in recipe development.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    • An advanced understanding of all aspects of brewing
    • Solid experience with a 7BBL or larger system
    • Prior packaging, bottling, and racking experience
    • Advanced knowledge of brewing science
    • Knowledge of classic and modern beer styles
    • Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
    • Multitasking and time management skills
    • Computer skills, including Excel and Word
    • Must have the schedule availability/flexibility to work long and/or odd hours as needed to complete tasks and maintain the brewing operations
    • Physical strength, flexibility and stamina required, including ability to lift 60 lb. bags
    • Ability to work safely with hazardous materials including CO2, acids, caustics and sanitizers
    • Strong organizational habits, a self-motivated work ethic, and good critical thinking/problem solving skills
    • Must have valid driver’s license
    • Must be reliable, communicate well and manage time well
    • Strong collaborative nature and a positive, can-do attitude

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Responsible for the entire brewing operation including: recipe development, raw material procurement, and managing inventories in all stages of production and ordering
    • Building the brewing schedule and forecasting
    • Managing product inventory and availability
    • Maintaining detailed logs and record keeping
    • Facilitating both accurate and timely state and federal excise reporting
    • Quality control and assurance throughout the process
    • Maintenance and cleaning of all brewery equipment
    • Training and education of the staff as well as maintaining tap system and operation
    • Full management of brewing personnel
    • Leading projects related to brewing operations; planning, organization, execution and completion
    • Heavy lifting of raw materials required in the brewing process
    • Troubleshooting
    • Representation at trade shows, festivals and local beer events
    • Brew consistently excellent beer

    The brewery is scheduled to open in the Summer of 2019. We are accepting resumes now and in the right situation are willing to hire several months before opening with the understanding that the Brewer will assist and participate in the final build-out and set-up of the brewery.

    The compensation package will include:
