    ABOUT FIFTH HAMMER BREWING CO.
    Opened in October of 2017, Fifth Hammer Brewing Company is a 15-bbl craft brewery and tasting room located in Queens, NY. In the heart of Long Island City, the Fifth Hammer tasting room is a community hub that has rapidly won hearts for the environment it offers and for the variety of high-quality beers available to enjoy. Fifth Hammer believes in creativity in perpetuity and is consistently expanding its diverse portfolio of beers. The brewery has recently expanded fermentation capacity by 60% and seeks a skilled, enthusiastic, craft beer loving person to join the Fifth Hammer Brew Crew in a production role.


    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
    - Brewing and cellar activities -- including but not limited to:
    • Wort production
    • Vessel/Brewhouse CIP and sanitation
    • Yeast harvesting
    • Handling raw materials
    • Dry hopping and other secondary ingredient additions
    • Transferring and carbonating beer
    • Barrel work (transferring to/from, cleaning, purging, maintenance)
    • Additional tasks related to brewing and cellaring beer
    • Cleaning
    • More cleaning
    • Cleaning even more
    • Monitoring fermentation (gravity, pH, pitch rates, etc.)
    • Maintaining accurate and coherent records
    • Assisting with packaging and keg cleaning
    • Maintaining and ensuring that the brewery production area remains clean and organized
    • Maintaining an orderly and safe work environment
    • Forklift operation
    • Other miscellaneous duties as needed, including keg/can deliveries


    REQUIREMENTS:
    • 1+ year/s experience in a similar role in a packaging brewery is required. A formal brewing education is desirable but will not replace the professional experience requirement
    • Strong knowledge of the brewing process
    • Ability to follow recipes and standard operating procedures
    • Must be able to properly handle hazardous materials and operate complex machinery.
    • Must possess high quality standards and be able to work effectively and efficiently without direct supervision
    • A focus on cleanliness and proper sanitation must be of the highest priority
    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. The job may also require occasional travel to and participation in trade shows and beer related events
    • Must be organized and punctual with outstanding time management skills
    • This is a labor-intensive, highly-physical position. Must have ability to be physically agile and flexible for the duration of a shift, lift 55+ pounds repeatedly throughout the shift, safely handle hot and cold liquids, & safely handle cleaning/sanitizing chemicals.
    • Must have basic computer skills and aptitude.
    • Must be 21 years of age or older and have proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.

    This is a full time, 40 hours per week position. Salary is dependent upon experience. 80 hours paid time off annually (hours accrued weekly and can be used after 60-day probationary period), 5 days sick leave (max 40 hours annual), 6 paid holidays annually (New Years Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day).
