    Trillium Brewing Company is looking for a full-time Sensory and Development Lab Technician to join our talented production team! Reporting to the QA Manager, this role will be responsible for leading the sensory program as well as play a contributing role in developing recipes. Their primary tasks will involve conducting routine analysis of to-be packaged beer. This position involves sample collection, laboratory testing, as well as compiling and reporting results. This position is based in our Canton, MA location. This is an amazing opportunity to join a rapidly expanding, family-run brewery and bring your expertise into the world of craft beer!


    Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
    ● Adhere to all identified safety requirements and work to promote a culture of safety within the company
    ● Maintain system for checking in-process beers and signing off for packaging or retail release
    ● Organize and prepare all samples for sensory panel, execute sensory session (blind panels or open discussion), and clean up area post session
    ● Organize system to collect data for analysis, e.g. Draughtlab Pro, Google Forms, etc., and present findings to QA Manager
    ● Develop sensory training program to train Trillium staff on standard tastes, off-flavors, flavor descriptors, and Trillium brands/style. This includes setting up, executing, and cleaning up all samples for training as well as any necessary visual training materials
    ● Develop panelist score sheets to identify best performers for key off-flavors and weight sensory evaluations
    ● Continually develop and fine-tune sensory descriptors to identify out-of-spec batches
    ● Test new adjuncts to evaluate quality and identify dosing rates for scaling to production batches
    ● Develop recipes with guidance from new brand development worksheet
    ● Lead benchtop trials to perform root cause analysis of production related failures and propose potential solutions
    ● Identify problem areas in production that impact quality assurance and work with the QA Manager to resolve issues
    ● Identify, develop, and catalogue SOPs for all sensory related quality control points
    ● Execute ad hoc projects as needed for sensory and process improvement
    ● Ensure sufficient supply of consumable materials in the lab for sensory
    ● Prepare and clean up all quality control testing and experiments
    ● Maintain a clean and organized laboratory

    Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

    Desired Qualifications & Abilities
    Experience
    ● BS/BA degree in microbiology, biology, biochemistry, or food science preferred
    ● Brewing knowledge/experience preferred

    ● Detail oriented, analytical, and organized
    ● Effective communication and interpersonal skills
    ● Enthusiastic about working in a fast-growing, evolving workspace
    ● Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
    ● Must be able to safely and efficiently work in a busy and close-quartered environment
    ● Ability to safely handle hazardous chemicals in accordance with strict safety protocols
    ● Have a passion for quality beer!
