Head Brewer needed for Barrel of Monks Brewing
Background:
Barrel of Monks Brewing is a 4 year old production brewery in Boca Raton, FL, that specializes in Belgian-style ales. Our focus is on quality and a mix of tradition and innovation. The semi-automated touchscreen 20 bbl NSI brewhouse is a pleasure to brew on and we have 360 bbl of fermentation space. We produced just over 2000 barrels last year and are aiming for closer to 3000 barrels this year. The brewery is privately owned and has a small dedicated staff and a friendly family style atmosphere.
Job description:
The head brewer will be responsible for working with the production team to generate high quality and consistent beer. The head brewer will do most of the actual brewing and will supervise and train assistant brewers and cellar persons as needed. The head brewer will answer to the production manager and brewmaster.
Responsibilities:
-Follow and assist in improving upon a strong safety program
-Abide by and assist in developing SOP’s
-Lead daily production operations needed to maximize production and efficiency without compromise in quality
-Perform routine brewing of most of the beer and train assistant brewers and shift brewers as they become available
-Harvest and propagate yeast as needed for production
-Work in collaboration with packaging manager to meet production needs for package product
-Maintain a positive, upbeat attitude with an open line of communication with ownership and management
-Attend regular meetings with ownership and management
-Supervise and maintain our barrel aging program
-Supervise and manage our in-house lab - perform QA tests as needed
-Maintain detailed and accurate production and inventory records - including data entry in Beer Run software
-Perform regular sensory analysis of product
-Work with taproom manager to coordinate and assist with special releases and events

Experience:
We are looking for an experienced (5 + years) commercial brewer, with a full understanding of brewing principles and processes. While we anticipate that some training on our specific system will be needed, we expect this person to quickly become autonomous and to propose new ideas and techniques. A history of education via a formal brewing program or school is a plus.
Hours:
Weekdays, some weekends, some early mornings or late evenings
Time off requests will require 2 weeks advance notice
2 weeks vacation per year beginning no sooner than 4 months after hire date
Physical requirements:
Ability to lift at least 55 lbs over the shoulders, repeatedly
Ability to work in hot, cold, and wet environments
Ability to work in standing position for long periods
Ability to operate a forklift
