  • 49th State Brewing Denali Park Seeks Head Brewer

    The 49th State Brewing Company is an award winning brewery with brewpubs in both Anchorage and Denali National Park, Alaska. We're immediately hiring for a Head Brewer in our Denali National Park location for our summer 2019 season (Longer term contracts are available for the right candidate).

    This is a full time, six month, seasonal position. Generally the term of the seasonal contract is April 1 - September 30, however, the right candidate would be able to start as soon as possible in order to train under the current Head Brewer.

    Denali National Park is one of the most beautiful places on earth and we brew award winning beer in an award winning restaurant. Because of that we have a steady flow of local regulars from Healy, nearby Fairbanks, park employees, and tourists which make this job fast paced and demanding for the six month season. The right fit for our team will bring energy, positivity, the ability to work with multiple restaurant managers and work through the challenges that brewers face on a day to day basis.

    A minimum of five years professional brewing experience is required and some form of brewing education is preferred. The person will need to have a strong desire to brew world class beer consistently, professionally lead a team to ensure safety and quality, execute recipes with precision, and have mechanical aptitude and a problem solving mind set. The position reports to the Brewmaster, located in Anchorage.

    Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

    • Wort production
    • Knowledge and maintenance of brewery critical equipment, including RO system
    • Operation of skid steer
    • Ability to accurately manage invoices and track inventory
    • Ability and willingness to create your own recipes, but also execute company recipes with precision as prescribed by the Brewmaster
    • Ability to work with a team in a fast paced environment
    • Cellar work (keg washing, filling, cleaning and rotation of draft lines)...everyone pitches in on all tasks when needed
    • Yeast propagation
    • Cellar readings (maintaining daily fermentation logs for gravity, pH, and temperature)
    • Lab work (yeast cell counts, monitoring of yeast health)
    • Repeated lifting of 55 lb bags
    • Repeated movement of kegs up to 161 lbs
    • Handling of hazardous cleaning and sanitation chemicals
    • Management of monthly keg and grain inventory
    • Cleaning and sanitation of brewery equipment
    • Cleaning of brewery surfaces (floor and exterior surfaces) to ensure positive images for tours
    • Weighing out of hops and malts and staging brewing ingredients
    • Operation of centrifuge and/or lenticular filtration
    • Data entry into Ekos brewery management software
    • Other miscellaneous tasks to assist brewery operations


    Compensation: Competitive Salary, cash bonus structure, housing provided, two meals per day at our amazing brewpub, RT flights between your home and Alaska or $300 gas reimbursement for those that elect to drive.
